Scarpa was born in Venice, Italy (lucky him!), so he must have known what he was talking about. For Venice is a maze without streets and altough it's pretty small (it's diameter is only about 5 km) you can get perfectly lost. It happend to me a lot. Yet every time you get lost in Venice you find something you didn't expect like this odd window which really isn't a window or at least not the window of a room. It's more like a window in a wall of a garden but looking at it know you almost get the feeling they only build this wall so they could have this window.
I took a photograph of it's beautiful window grate made from wrought iron which we then used to create the shadow you can only see in the mirror of this photo:
