Description Why is porn so successful? Maybe because half of the people like to get sexually aroused and the other half likes to get morally aroused - and they are both very powerful human instincts and they both contribute to the popularity of porn. I'm not judging ... but don't you think this is interesting?

I understand some of you argue a picture like this is not art because there is not a lot of effort in it. I can only say two things: 1) The "artistic value" of any artwork is not necessarily a question of how many hours of work were involed. 2) If it were then this picture should have a certain artistic value since I actually put a lot of hours of work in it.

Thanks to Lilly Roma (model)

Wonderful picture, I really love this model, she is beautiful.

Interesting enough comment about art vs porn. I can tell you right now that porn or 'erotica' is an art form. I have come to my own conclusions about art, but one definition was explained to me in college, and I think it makes sense. Here is what I've learned of art:
Art is a refined craft.
1.) It is not merely talent, or a great capacity to do something. It is a craft involving REFINED skill and manipulation. Art is something that changes over time, with attention to detail and REFINEMENT of craft.
2.) Art is carried out through an INSTRUMENTAL MEDIUM. An instrument is something which needs an individual to use it for its very purpose. For example, there is a difference between a machine and an instrument. A machine does the same thing over and over and does not need a person to manipulate its outcome. For example, a clock is a mechanism which tells time. It is not an instrument like a guitar, who's product is actually based on individual will and choice of its manipulator. The product of a machine is separate from the person, while a musical or other instrument depends on the person's choices and will.

That's what art is, an expression of creative will through an instrumental medium. I see no reason why erotica, soft or hard, should be considered less.

One other thing to consider about art- it drives and reflects human desire and behavior. One could argue a machine does also, but its function is not used for the purpose of creative will. My best example is cars. While the design and body paint are an artistic perspective, the function is transportation. Likewise, the skill of driving could be considered an art form, if it is done freely and openly with the allowance of the driver to make mistakes and correct and refine. Too many rules, and it becomes less artistic and say, more like a sport.

Art is always open to new development. After an artist refines one expression to their satisfaction, they may move on to a new perspective all together, with all new refinement and expression.

Personally I don't understand how people could misconstrue this as "porn". Also, I'm sure it DID take hours of work. Getting the lighting just right, the right look and feel of the piece, the make-up alongside the moisture on the body, the contrast of colors...It's a great piece. Great job to you and your models for capturing allure and poise.

Art is, ultimately, a subjective thing, and it's worth (or lack thereof) is for each person to decide for themselves.

hm.. I understand why you would be upset to receive negative comments about your work.Β

Honestly, after having my best friend go into cam-girling, and being exposed to that industry, I've become very aware not only of the model's hard work, but the photographer.

Most people don't see the particular way Lilly Roma is holding her face, or the fact that her back is not on the floor (she'd have to hold herself in that position for probably longer than is comfortable). They don't see the way you've been very careful to line the breasts up exactly symmetrical, and the fingers as well. They don't see the lighting... well, they just aren't looking, actually.Β

My point is that I am on your side here.. I don't think that a picture necessarily has to 'say something' or 'have a message' to be art.. I don't think I have to look for a deeper meaning than to simply look at your photos, appreciating the beauty of the photograph, of the model, of your choices in lighting, posture, camera angle, background, etc. I appreciate your ART. <3

well.. I like the porn, too

One big issue is the relationship between art and beauty. Some say they are the same, some say otherwise. I will always consider the female body as one of the strongest representations of beauty. For us heterosexual men, woman are our mothers, lovers, wives and our goal in life to find that other half that will make us "whole". That is why I feel like this is art, beauty, arousing and pleasing at the same time.

Thanks of the great work stefangrosjean and thanks to the model for being such a beauty.

I've been reading the comments on this one, and considering the opening line, I have something I wanted to say. Unusual for me, but here goes.

The difference between erotica and porn, in my opinion, is that erotica
leaves something to the imagination of the viewer, and porn does not.
It's a very fine distinction for some people, and others haven't the
imagination to realize that the distinction exists. Erotica vs porn is
not still images vs video - both media can be erotica or pornography. This photo to me is erotic. Why is she smirking? Her eyes are
tell me the day is far from over, her cupped breasts a display of what
the day might hold (pun intended). The bath has drops of water, yet only
her hair seems wet - there's a story here and much more to be inferred
from the photo. Who is she seducing? Nice that it's aimed at the viewer.
Your photo is telling me part of a story, and telling a compelling story is definitely an art. Her look brings you into the story that you are curious about learning.

The first look at a picture I see is NOT about if I can find something jarring about it. I dislike being jarred into an emotional response - I tend to end up looking at pics of women because I usually know what to expect. It's about my brain telling me "Stop. Look closer because there is something about it." Getting personal, I look pretty much where most guys do in pretty much the same order - tits (or ass), eyes, hair. Those 2 seconds go a bit fast. Pulling back a bit, face and expression. Same with pictures. Her expression got me to actually read more about her. Props to stefangrosjean for a picture that invited me to linger. She's pretty, but the look took me past that into asking, "what's with the smirk?" Getting that smirk right probably took hours by itself.

Ultimately, I know what I like. You know what you like. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion. Those of you who like this picture do so because on some level your getting it.

I like it because there's a lot more going on than just a naked girl with big tits.

Capturing sexuality this way is an art. It's not like those candy-shop pornflicks from Hollywood. It arouses me in different ways, while being openly sexual.

The debate about "art" versus "porn" is endless, and pointless. Β Both words are used because of their emotive content and their concealment of subjectivity through pseudo-objective classification. Β If a painting or photograph has a sexual or erotic subject, those viewers who like it will call it art, those who dislike it will call it porn. Β A few, who use this language with irony, will call it porn but say they like it. Β We could all save a lot of words and bandwidth if we got rid of these two words and simply wrote a comment on your photos (or mine, or his, or hers) saying "beautiful" or "disgusting".

If u say so...but I think that art needs something more than being pleasurable to perceive, for being defined "Art": something to communicate for example, even a simple mood, or even emptiness or a trivial tought to the "user/viewer", and arousal is too easy to work with(especially with a "naked chick").
Maybe this depiction has a perfect light or a good angle, surely there's a lot of hard work behind this snap, but the only thing I think watching it is: "eih, look there, boobs!".
Perhaps I can't catch the art here, or maybe the only real art is in the tought you wrote under the picture; I do not mean to offend you nor to denigrate your work, but I think too many people use the word "Art" improperly, just cause Art is being mistaken with "hard work".
Art should give something to the user, should gratify the viewer, give him a sense of accomplishment in some cases, and is quite hard to be pleased by something that's "only" (indeed not so simple) good to see.Β

I'm sorry if I was long-winded, but your thinking has interested me and I was pleased to answer you with mine.
