Improvements I have in mind is not using any blending tools. I personaly don't like it and the shades looks better when you work the shading with diferent shades of graphit.

I know there is different opinions about blending. Personally I love the soft effect you get from blending tools - have since I first discovered them 
I sometimes make drawings with no blending too, but as a tool I haven't seen anyone make the same effect with just pencils. The result looks different, so it is just down to preference. (In the same way I prefer black/white over color)
Of course I need different softness of graphite too - (proud that I managed with only two different pencils in this one.)

Yes, it depends a lot it perferences.
Your image when it's little it doesn't looks like it was used bleding tools but when I saw it bigger it notices.
I'm studing arts that's why I know xD
and only two of my classes doesn't use bleding tools, lol which is me and my friend xD
And we two are the only ones who draw by ourselfs, the others trance the lines ( for exemple a potrait ) and the only thing they work on are the shadings, which pisses me of :/

As I said - I like the softness it gives 
This is drawn freehand - only had the ref on the computer in front of me - you can probably see that it is not traced...
I sometimes use grid if likeness is important or time is short. But I think tracing would feel very restricting (never tried

I didn't told you you traced, it's easy to see if the draw is traced or not.
Likes are likes, you prefer the softness I prefer the texture but that's just likes and we can't change it
You don't have to study arts to be an artist, I choose arts but I wantes sciences, I wanted to study astronomy for College but I suck at math xp my lucky was that I "know" and love to draw so I choosen arts
I know a lot of artists that didn't studied arts or they studied but they choosen, for exemple, sculpture on college and they are doing illustration.
I choose Multimedia but I want to do Comic Books.
