Very often, Demeter would leave Persephone in the safety of the sacred garden at the base of Olympos whilst she went about her duties. There, Persephone would construct great works of art, sculpting the gardens to her whim. But she was never alone: her best friends were the rugged, to the point, creature-loving Artemis, and the sweet, quiet, bashful Psyche. The three of them would often sit and talk and laugh. Artemis would tease the other two about going on adventures together, but it was never allowed.

And always at the end of the day, Cupid would come for his wife, Psyche, to take her back to Olympos in style. The two newlyweds were also new to godhood, and whilst Persephone fawned over their seemingly perfect and oh-so-romantic relationship, no one ever noticed Artemis look on with sadness and longing. And always Demeter would come to collect her precious child before Artemis could leave. Aphrodite always arrived by clam-shell, so Demeter always arrived by the sprouting of a great tree, its branches parting to reveal her.

It was a simple life, filled with innocent joys. But as the years rolled by, Persephone became restless, she longed for more in life, even when she knew her mother would never allow it. The gardens always bowed to her whims, but Persephone wanted to test her strengths, she wanted to be challenged, she wanted to become the god she was always meant to.

So one day, she decided to be a little brave.

Persephone: Mother, I was wondering... maybe I could help you better if I was out there in the world?

Demeter: In the world? Why sweetness, whatever do you mean?

Persephone: I mean - If I was out there, on my own, learning about the mortals, using my powers, then I could be a real god -

Demeter: Persephone, you are a real god.

Persephone: Come on, mother, you know what I mean! I don't have duties, the mortals don't worship me, it's like I don't exist. If I could just get out there, I could prove to you -

Demeter: And what would happen to you out there? Yes, the mortals don't worship you right now, and without that worship, it makes you weak! I will not put you in danger, Persephone. If you wish to come out more with me, then we'll do that. But other than that, you are staying in this garden and that is final!
