Ah well, live and learn. Or rather, live, and cry over your shading skills. (I know this from experience.)
Usually sizing is a problem, which is why I love transform, transparency, and layering tools.
If you take a drawing that you've done, you can resize parts, make them transparent, make another layer on top, and draw on top of that as a guide. (I mean hey, you drew it, it's not cheating at all.

Usually I just prefer a pencil and sizing is never a problem because PENCILS WOW.

I love pencils. ^w^ They're my main source of power. I have at least 7 sketchbooks/journals that have almost all pencil work...Rest is marker/paint/whetever.

I got this special pencil set for christmas.
Best physical present that has nothing to do with electronics.
There's a bunch of lighter pencils to use instead of standard #2 pencils which I like a whole lot more. I see artists make all these draft lines everywhere and wonder how they do that when if I try that, all I get is something I'll never be able to erase. >.<
