An event much like depicted really did historically happen. At the end of the 17th century the Moslem Moghuls of India tried to defeat and conquer the Hindu Mahrattas. Finally ceasefire negotiations were initiated, in a show of sincerity the Moghul warlord was to embrace the Hindu raja. Case was that both of them hid blades in their hands... And whom of them was the smartest of them: Raja Shivaji. He guessed that the Moghul commander would try to backstab him so he put a hauberk inside his shirt.
So when they both tried to backstab each other it was the Hindu blade that struck home, not the Moghul's... Soon after the Moghul commander was dead and it became far simpler for the Mahrattas to overcome the successor. Raja Shivaji is said to be one of the greatest military geniuses of all the military history of India.
