May I ask which kind of a martial art did you refer to, please?

None what so ever; we were mostly thinking about these in magical and/or fantasy terms. I have no martial arts training.

Oh, I see.. Well, I do like and support the idea of what you're doing, but, if you allow, I'd have to critic this punch concept from the practical point of view - it looks good, but it wouldn't be technically effective, and those who like or study martial arts will notice that.
To achieve a good-looking and practically effective punch pose, I'd recommend you to try and look for kick-boxing or karate techniques. You can find enough relevant materials in the internet, as videos or pictures.
I hope I've rather helped than did the opposite, and I wish you good luck.
