Oh yes, I think it would be great to combine elements from NGE episode 23 with the second Rebuild movie and even have Eva Unit-01 actually use the Magoroku Exterminate Sword as originally intended in my headcanon. So yeah, I can imagine Shinji's eyes begining to glow red as he yells at Armisael to let Rei go. Okay, yes, she does tell him that she can be replaced, but Shinji denies Rei's claim and uses the sword to ultimately take down Armisael with some help from the others as they realize the 16th Angel does have a weakness. In a way, Rei surviving the fight against Armisael is actually a nod to the game Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 and it also helps in making things better going forward as a result.
