Description
Soyuz TM-16 was the only Soyuz to use the APAS-89 docking system instead of the normal Russian probe. Originally intended as a "Rescue Soyuz" to support the Buran space shuttle programme, it eventually flew to Mir in 1993 to dock with at the station's Kristall module.
