Description
One look was all Lt. Semenov needed to see the damage to the warp coils was beyond repair. The Romulan plasma beam had only struck Minotaur 581 a glancing blow, which at the time had seemed a stroke of luck - any closer, and the ball of energised matter would have destroyed the Earth fighter outright. However, even that near miss had been enough to smash through one of the ship's radiators and rip open the warp nacelle. Two of her six matter-antimatter fuel cells remained fully charged, and the fusion reactor was undamaged, but without working warp coils there was no way the fighter could cross the 120 Astronomical Units to the rendezvous point with Enterprise before the carrier was forced to pull out.

Fortunately, the Minotaur's impulse drive was still fully functional, allowing the small ship to escape the scene of battle before Romulan re-enforcements could arrive. Captain Raman had ordered them to set down on a nearby comet, allowing them to assess the situation under a protective screen of ice and dust. But with Romulan Chowder-class cruisers scoring the area in search of revenge for their destroyed outpost, their cometary sanctuary could yet become their tomb...
