Description About a couple of years ago, I drew her:

Ever since I posted that pic, I knew I wanted to redraw her. Just everything about that pic I wasn't too pleased, but the two issues I personally had were her abs and her hair. Those two things bugged me the most. Unfortunately, lack of ideas and lack of motivation kept me from drawing her. Then, months ago, (shameless plug) drew this:

Somehow, seeing his take on Reiko got my motivation to redraw Kazume, though it would be a long while before I finally put something on paper. While I don't think I did a good job fixing my scan, I finally came up with something that I liked.

Welp, seeing as I don't see myself finishing up my little story of Kazume's existence anytime soon, might as well give the background. So...

***

She was born under the name of 'Hanako Yamada Unit-5336' as one of many attempts to artificially create a human being with the Devil Gene, and like every other Hanakos and Taros, '5336' was also a failure. In spite of many attempts to simulate as 'natural' and environment for the Devil Gene to awaken, 5336's remained permanently dormant, thus produced a normal human girl, or in the eyes of the corporation that made her, a billion dollar **** up.

After many long, excruciating, and ultimately failed attempts to awaken the gene, it was finally decided to terminate her and start all over. Her 'adopted mother', however, would have none of that. Having cared for 5336 as her own, she took pains to stow the little girl and plan escape from the corporation. Long story short, 5336 lived at the cost of her adopted mother's life.

Alone and numb from her experience, it was simply by chance that a G-Corp limousine stumbled upon her. Kazuya so happened to be in that limo, along with an executive. While Kazuya would want nothing to do with her, the executive took pity on the girl and took her in. Upon bringing her, the biggest shock they discovered was that 5336 had Mishima blood, more specifically, Kazuya's blood. (If it sounds a little like X-23's background, believe me, I didn't realize it until much later.) Given that Kazuya at that time wasn't the CEO of the G-Corp, against his wishes he became responsible for the upbringing of his 'daughter', and seeing as he learned to raise children from Heihachi, so to speak, the upbringing was pretty rough to say the least.

Training for 5336 was the worst. Though she had Mishima blood, when it came to fighting, she was anything but a natural. She could hardly keep up even with the basics of her karate training, and the more advanced moves of Mishima karate pretty much went over her head. Yet, starving for affection from someone who shows so little, if at all, ANY affection, 5336 somehow found it in herself to endure just a little longer.

Seemingly out of the blue one day, during another one of her training exercises, Kazuya grew tired of referring to 5336 as 5336 or even Hanako. He wanted to give her a proper name, but decided to let 5336 choose the name. After some deliberation, 5336 chose the name 'Kazume'. To say that Kazuya approved would be an understatement; it was perhaps the only time in memory that he complimented the girl, though 5336 would not understand why until years later. Thus Hanako 5336 became 'Kazume Mishima'.

***

At Tekken 6, I was rather astounded by the fact that the son of a tree hugger for much of his life was more than capable of juggling the books and running a huge corporate empire as one big military nation. The last straw for me, however, was the introduction of Lars, and through him came the big deal of having Mishima blood. I created Kazume pretty much in response to that very issue, along with the idea that there is a very good reason why Kazuya and Jin were the only two devils in the series (though Namco could always end up changing this in later games). She eventually does grow to become a great fighter, but not without alot of work on her part, along with some major trials. Unlike her father and half brother, she would also have no devil gene to fall back on, thus she would be a character who would have to earn her way through life. From there, how the rest of her story goes, eventually I'll be able to write the rest of that.

I'm done talking. The one or two people who care, what do you think?

You sure you want to go through that trouble? Even I got a headache rereading my own stuff.

Eeeeeyup. I got time now. Aaaand I did.

And woah, gotta say, very nice story. It fits into the story and doesn't interfere with the stories of other characters, smoothly running alongside the canon story of tekken I like that ;D and I also like how you didn't give her the devil gene, despite her origin

Thanks. Glad you didn't hurt yourself reading it. Felt there was no need to interfere with the canon, either, so she is pretty much lurking in the background.

Also glad you approved of the choice to not give her the gene, either. I never thought it was something that can be inherited so easily, and I most certainly didn't think something that had a supernatural origin should be so easily created in a petri dish. Along with the downplay of her Mishima heritage, makes her a little less of a Mary Sue that way. If only I had motivation to continue her story.

It was a fun read, well written, so it was def worth it :D

I approve of everything that balances a character out, and considering heihachi didn't have the devil gene, but jinpachi did, it's pretty plausible that she didn't have it either

Out of random curiosity, would you be willing to be tormented by more of my Tekken-related texts? o.o

Oh ofcourse! But it depends on what characters really XD when it's about the Mishimas/Kazamas I'm usualy more willingly to read them than when it's about, say, Bruce Irvin

Don't worry, I happen to be a Mishima fan myself, or rather a Kazuya fan and maybe a little Jinpachi as well. Oh, and I do like Jun and Unknown before they were made one and the same. Long story short, the walls of text (and I mean walls) you would see would have 'Mishima' and 'Kazama' all over. If you feel ready, just look at my ff.net profile... here: [link]

Good luck reading.

And if you ever feel brave enough to write your own stories, do feel free to show me, ok? For someone who claims English is not her first language, you seem pretty good to me.
