Background: When Akira and Mari were very young, they lost their parents to humans. They were out that night and came home to a burning house. Not wanting Mari to see, young Akira picked her up and ran away. He knows very well their parents are dead, but refuses to let Mari know the truth, scared of what the truth will do to her.
