Description

When I lived in Lemoore, Ca people would tell me that every summer. Never got much comfort out of it when the temps were 105 degrees and hotter. Anyway, I was playing around with sun settings and clouds mostly in this. Finally got the sun to have that shimmering effect like is often gets when it's on the horizon.

Neither, it's a 3D rendering.

105ΒΊ,
here it rain for now 7 days,
and maybe the same rain days for the week end

Aeires In reply to Starslight-Forever [2005-05-01 16:48:55 +0000 UTC]

100 degree days were common in the summer. People pretty much live indoors during the day and come out only at night during the summer months. A guy I worked with came down from Washington state and he didn't have air conditioning in his car. About died every summer. Even with the windows rolled down, it was still hot air blowing in as you drove.

here on the hot summer, we can reach 97Β°, with the humidity fact maybe 100Β° but those day are really rare, most of the time is around 85Β° or 90Β°, and with humidity is really hot,
so about 105Β°, heeeee

Very, very nice! It's really quiet in a way, with the plain and one set of mountains to the side. I really like the balance all this gives the picture. The unearthly orange of the sky is beautiful as well! Top stuff!!

Aeires In reply to YuichiSuzutake [2005-05-01 17:07:30 +0000 UTC]

I think you are the only one that pointed out the balance. I moved the camera and sun around quite a bit to get that effect. Glad you noticed and that you like it.

Excellent hero ...is that purely T-Gen ???...

THe sun is awesome...i have never seen T-Gen produce a sun like that ...

It's almost perfect... i think only a little backlighting on the mountain edges could be used to increase realism..even if you did it in PS...

Koolnesness...

Yep, all terragen. Sometimes I run it into photoshop and do an Auto Correct Color and Contrast to snap the colors, but this time it turned the ground into a nasty neon blue, so this was unedited.

I don't even want to talk about how much work went into the sun and wavy atmosphere.

I have to agree about the mountain. If I wasn't such a rookie at PS, I'd have tried to do something with it. Probably should work more in PS, but I can't tear myself away from UF and Terragen long enough.

love the way you have the sun blurred... as if there's a heat distortion. Great coloring on the atmosphere.

Thanks, glad you like it. This is a Terragen [link] image. It's completely different in the setup than bryce and is only a landscaping program.

LOL! Nice title! I don't think I ever got that effect, but it rocks! Nice suble detail in the sky and a cool terrain, too.

Aeires In reply to Ellygator [2005-04-26 07:50:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I actually didn't spend too much time on the ground, but spent a ton on the sky. I think that's the section of the program that I need the most practice with.

Yeah, that comment always irked me as I would be standing there about do die in the heat. Couldn't pass on the opportunity.

Aeires In reply to bluesypher [2005-04-24 23:35:24 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I've been wanting to do a rock formation like this for a long while now, but never got around to it till yesterday. I keep saying that I'm going to use terragen more, but this time I think I'm serious about working with it more. It's like UF, a lot to tackle, but worth it if the time is put into it.

Like Suirebit said, a dirtier, desert plain might have looked better.

I feel like I'm standing there, in front of the sun, but covered in shade. I love the mountain, the sun and the sky. That picture is awesome.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeires In reply to logantscott [2005-04-24 23:37:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. I thought about a simpler plane but it didn't look quite right. This was actually modeled after a wallpaper I have of a similar scene from out west. The iron is very heavy in the rocks and dirt of the area, so it has that red look to it. It also has just enough desert shrub to break up the floor of the plains and give a bit of contrast. I'll have to see what the next image does though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

logantscott In reply to Aeires [2005-04-25 03:17:44 +0000 UTC]

I liked the red in the rocks. I was thinking a little more dirt-color mixed in with the shrub would look nice. Now that I've seen it again though, it looks fine.

I love how its hard to tell the scale of that pic. At first I felt like I was standing in the desert looking at an odd rock formation. At second glance, it looked like I was 1000 feet off the ground looking up at a huge rocky peak.

I almost have to squint at the sun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeires In reply to logantscott [2005-04-26 07:52:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the second look. Next desert scene I plan on doing a lot of things differently, so I'll give the advice a try.
