I redesigned Princess Celestia for no reason lol.

Headcanon is that she's the Empress of the Equestrian Empire, and of course the older sister to Princess Lunastasia. She was born a Unicorn, but later earned her wings during 'The Black Winter' where she rose the sun for the first time as a filly, effectively placing herself on the top of the podium for potential rulers. She is extremely adept at politics and is more powerful than her sister in the way of words and persuasion than she is with actual magic.

She is extremely jealous, and though she loves her sister dearly, she can't stand to see her get more attention than her. Part of this is why Nightmare Moon was born, but there were many more reasons other than that.
Her magic specializes in the Sun and the weather/temperature/climate. Due to her limited magical abilities (compared to Luna) Celestia had taken onto pouring herself into her books and studies ever since she became a legitimate heir to the throne. She is an expert in Astronomy and Herbology, and she is versed in many languages and art forms.
She practices being perfect because in her life, there is no room for anything less than perfection, for she is revered to as must therefore be a perfect ruler.

At some point, when she was still a princess in her youth, she had fallen in love with the young King of the Crystal Empire. They had a short-lived love before his obsession with black magic turned him mad and he had to be slain. She had befriended Discord in the past as well, but when her ponies rose up in anger at the thought of their leader befriending an enemy Draconequis, she had to let the friendship end bitterly.

She wasn't a very good person in the past, and as a result gives her best effort into being a better pony, especially by doting on her sister and giving her as much love an affection as possible. When Twilight comes into her life, she views her in the same light as she had always viewed Luna, but vows to not make the same mistakes again.
