The prompt for this second day of Inktober immediately made me think about the Tranquils in Dragon Age.

For people not familiar with these awesome games and to make it short, Tranquils are people with magical abilities who undergo a Rite intended to sever their connection to the Fade, the realm of dreams and magic. To this effect, they are branded with lyrium on their forehead. After the Rite, they are unable to perform magic and all manner of feelings and emotions are lost to them. Some mages go through the Tranquility Rite of their own free will, others do not.

I think the young mage pictured here didn't agree to the Rite... or perhaps she did, but I imagine it can still be overwhelming to realize that you're just about to lose a huge part of yourself, and pretty much never be the same person again -hence the tear. I like to think this drawing shows the moment right after the Rite was accomplished: the tear she just shed as the branding tool approached her face is sliding down her cheek and already drying, fading away with the last emotion she'll ever have.

Wow, this one was hard to draw. I'm aware the result is far from perfect, but I'm so proud I managed to finish it and actually make it look somewhat like what I had in mind!
