I still don't understand where people are finding this painting. It's six years old.

I like how so many of your armoured women have an embellishment on their upper chests. Β In reality, having breasts on a breastplate is a terrible idea, since it would deflect an attack inward, toward the sternum. Β However, we all like our fantasy females to look feminine - and this is a neat compromise. Β Well done!

Funny enough, I don't have such an issue with the chainmail bikinis. Β Due to cost, oppressive weather, a desire for mobility or just plain bravado, plenty of dudes in history went into battle wearing loincloths, etc. - even when "better" armour was available. Β I imagine lots of female fighters (though perhaps not as many as depicted in some sources) would think the same way.
On the other hand, if one is going to the expense, time and trouble to wrap oneself in a protective shell, one would probably be inclined to make sure it was more help than hindrance. Β That being the case, it's nice to see an artist who obviously gives some good thought to the logistics.

Some people went to battle in loincloths, probably because they could not afford armour to begin with. Nobody would actually be stupid enough to forgo armour because of the idea it would "limit mobility". Armour does not really limit mobility at all. Yes there were rare cases of nudist warriors, particularly among Ancient Celts, but their reasoning for doing so was out of devotion towards their religion, trying to show off to their enemies that their gods and goddesses were watching over them. These nudist warriors had very short lifespans though, according to Roman documentation. They also have nothing to do with Berserkers. The Berserkers described in Norse sagas actually wore bear skins, and were named after this fact (Berzerker means "bear coat"). They did not fight naked, and there is no evidence that these warriors actually existed in history, and were likely just a legend.
There is such a thing as light armour, but it is not done in the way fantasy video games and movies would show it. Rather than covering less of the body, a craftsman would try find ways to cover as much of the body as possible using lighter materials. One such example is called gambeson , and it was a padded jacket made from several layers of quilted cloth (usually linen or wool). By making loin clothes or bikinis out of steel, you are wasting valuable materials on regions of the body that the enemy is most likely never even going to hit.

That makes sense. Most realistic armour designs tend to be less nice to look at though, so it's not surprising that we don't see much of those padded jackets for example.

Less sexy at least, but I don't really think that makes it ugly. I think some people like the more utilitarian look. Not all gambesons are also so drab looking. People in the Middle Ages usually applied dyes and heraldic patterns on their gambesons, like this English Crusader style...Β www.medievalcollectables.com/iβ¦

Makes sense. There were berserkers after all, running into battle without protection. Still, I'd think such mad men were a minority.
It's fantasy, but it's still fun to give at least a llittle bit of thought to it looking a little bit realistic.

no problemΒ
the one thing i would say is the hips part of the armor .where the belts is , i think you should add more stuffs there , not that its bad but it looks like ,if she is wearing a very tide up clothes and just plugged the metal parts on top of it, sometimes you cant seeΒ that its just one armor, it looks like if it,s been collectedΒ

Thanks for the criticism, but that's how real armour usually works - you put on a bunch of separate pieces. If it were just one solid suit, the person wearing it couldn't move an inch. She could possibly use some more protection there rather than just chainmail though, so you have a point there.

yeah . sometimes i think , making an armor looks nice isnt important as making it functional ,but thin without the good look, i dont think it would be great to be usedΒ

Beautiful work! Very detailed and well made. The only thing I have to say which is really just up to personal preference is the background is really grainy and the colors are kind of bland, but someone could just as well love those colors and background. I dunno.
