Watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame for the first time the other day, I LOVE IT. So, naturally, I painted Esmeralda.
I really wish she'd ended up with Quasi though D:<

Not a problem. I'm new on here but I know all the work, research, and different sources of inspiration that may influence a piece of work. I wish others on here would remember that.

I know Esmeralda isn't white. And neither isΒ Roselyn Sanchez who I based this on. I seriously can't believe how many people are accusing me of being racist because of this. On all of my paintings I use a pale glow to highlight the cheekbones/noses etc which may have unintentionally made her skin lighter. For not being racist you guys like to talk about skin colours a lot.

She's not white. You changing her skin color from brown to white is hella racist. Good job. =\

Esmeralda doesn't look like this and even if you were going for a more realistic approach this still wouldn't be a very good representation of her.
What you have done here is called whitewashing, and it is racist to take a character of darker tones and make her this light because you subconsciously believe that lighter = more beautiful.
This is wrong.

I feel like the only person that actually likes the fact that Esmerelda ended up with Phoebus. D: Probably because they remind me of 2 of my friends who are together and have been for a while, but still...
Regardless, this is a wonderful painting.

Oh, my gosh! this is beautiful! You did an amazing job, especially in the eyes. It looks very realistic. And I agree with you, she should have ended up with Quasi. It kind of defeated the whole purpose of the movie, by having her end up with the ''handsome, non-deformed man''

Yeah, I found it quite upsetting. He was a lovely character and really cared about her, I would have enjoyed the movie a lot more if they'd ended up together. Having her end up with Phoebus seemed unnatural and forced D:

Absolutely love this concept of Esmeralda. You have done a beautiful job with colour & depth, But, I love how you gave her a unique face, the way you think she should look (the same thing I did with my Quasimodo pictures). Great originality, & beautiful mood to go with it. This has to be the 1st picture (besides cosplay photos..) I've seen that does'nt look like the Disney character, & I think that is what makes this a beautiful painting. Well done my friend!

I totally agree. Don't get me wrong, alot of artists do a great job in copying the Disney characters, but, I would love to see more originality in these concepts from these groups. Instead of the same looking image over & over again. That's the idea behind my concepts anyway. I'm going to be doing a scene where Quasimodo saves Esmeralda from being burnt at the stake, going to be a bit tricky, especially with the front of Notre Dame!
