Description By request from ~The8bitpixel of his drawing here [link]

I did something a little bit different here. I printed a black and white and cut out all the lines, and then overlaid the resulting cut onto a color printing to keep all of the shading and original colors. The result is more of a 3-D effect with good coloring. My previous attempts at color are satisfying, but with construction paper colors are largely lifeless. It's a bit of a cheat, but until I can find construction paper in more diverse colors, this is a good stopgap.

No problem, I get a lot of Yoko requests from artists' original work

Hey, it's another Yoko!
And I have to tell you, she looks better every time I see her from you.

I think there's something to be said about this new technique you're trying out. Sure, it does seem like a bit of a cheat, but the colours look pretty good and the shading looks great in this one. I was wondering, however... since there are 7 or 8 shades in this piece... what are the possibilities of using several different shades to fill in the colour? (Instead of one shade of construction paper for skin, have maybe two to get the shadow effect.) Of course... it means investing in a lot of different colours of paper, which would really be a big investment, but it would bridge the gap between what you were doing and this new way, right?

Food for thought only, of course.
Yoko still looks as amazing as ever.

Well, that's the goal. I went into Michaels the other day and was disappointed in the variety of construction paper available. I'll try to track down some at other places. It's the best solution, because my attempts at coloring by hand inside a paper-cut looks pretty stupid (it's largely my lack of skill, as well). Skin is always the hardest color, since there are so many shades and pigments. A computer can manipulate that a lot better than I can.
I'll probably find a better solution the next time I go back to Japan. The store I buy all of my supplies from over there has just about any crafting supply you could possibly imagine, all in a space not much bigger than most peoples' walk-in closets. I know I'll be able to find some better color options there.
Thanks for the props. I love doing Yoko anyway, but I also get the biggest response whenever I use her. Soon I'll need to set aside a whole wall for her (not a bad thing at all).

Aah, I see. (Glad to know that I wasn't very far off the mark... )

I've been visiting my local Michael's lately, too - in search of a good, light-weight and dyed paper to work with. And I have to tell you, I am very disappointed, too. I've tried working with cardstock, but at the size of my usual projects they never turn out well (and hurt my hand in the process due to over-straining.) So far, I think I'm stuck with this paper that I've been using lately (which other people buy so they can draw -on- them, not -with- them...). I guess I share your predicament, too.

I've been told that I can buy paper off the Internet. But without actually being able to feel the paper, it's a risky move. If you have other craft stores or artists' material stores around where you live, it's time to give them a try before resorting to on-line sources. Then again, there's always Japan. Unfortunately for me... I'm not travelling anytime soon...

Hey, it's not a surprise why you get big responses with Yoko. I mean... just look at her! And no, nothing wrong with setting aside a whole wall for her, either. And if you do actually do that, post up a photo!
