Description So I mentioned kinda quietly on the crop top drawing with him that John is almost always fully covered and you’ve probably noticed that he also dresses in sort of a semi-formal fashion. And I thought I would explain why he does that (bc he’s precious and he's my fav OC to talk about).

It kinda starts when he’s really young because John really looked up to his father and his father was always dressed really formally all the time. He also sort of picked up his father’s trademark scowl. He was a kid then so it was more of an adorably solemn expression as opposed to an actual scowl ofc.

I'm already getting off topic.
John was also enrolled in Trainer School which had uniforms and, when she was still alive, his mother chose what he wore. He did not at really any point have the tiniest shred of personal expression in regards to what he wore. It was more important that he fit into the family image. The same is true for Matthias, but he eventually totally rebelled and to this day wears dumb t-shirts to formal occasions bc he hates how pretentious suits are. Aaron, who went through the same thing, also had a rebellious break.

So as to the “always covered” thing and his apparently affinity for long-sleeve shirts, John was always out and casually capering around with wild pokemon and learning to fight from Maya (his machoke)… and as a result was perpetually bruised and scratched. Which was w/e for a while, but eventually a teacher who cared was like, "UMM". People freaked out. Walter (his father) was very distressed. John was like "???????" and, being a highly anxious child with social issues, came to the conclusion that he shouldn’t let people know he was hurt bc they were apparently going to freak out and he or someone else would get in trouble. THIS IS HIS LOGIC. I'M DYING. HIS STUPID SELF-DESTRUCTIVE TENDENCIES RUIN ME.
It's not just a clothing thing either, he does not tell people when he is not feeling well or hurt somehow. Which is actually what happened to his knee; he hurt himself a while ago and then didn’t say anything about it until the the cartilage damage and general reckless behavior destroyed it. Hence surgery and temporary cane.

When he was working for William, the formal dress thing kinda got cemented and again with the Rangers uniform. Danny kinda tried to get him out of it and had minimal success. He’s very much business casual and it’s somewhat uncommon for him to wear a t-shirt. Even when he does they’re usually totally plain… Unless Danny picks it out. She tries to control herself though because she’d prefer he made his own decisions (even if he tends to stick to very particular choices). So anytime I draw him wearing something that has some sort of design on it; Danny got it for him. <3

He does have a great glare. X"D

I used one I found online for this particular drawing but I actually made my own a few days ago that I can share! And also the custom drawing brush dynamic that I made and have been using. It's kinda of a happy medium between "pencil generic" and "pencil shader".

I hate to ask, but would you happen to remember where you got this brush, or something?? I've tried messing with dynamics and such, but never tried making my own.
I did see that you had made your own, and that's so cool!

I... don't. And it was a really small brush that was meant for photoshop so I couldn't actually make it file work properly and ended up improvising. ewe
I did make my own brush though that is practically identical, but high resolution, no size issue, has a more graphite texture (i think), and you don't have to layer the brush as much to get a darker line. :3

I will also spend some time today writing up a tutorial to make the drawing dynamic bc it's pretty freaking sweet.

Oh, John. You poor creature. Why did nobody love you right as a kid? Well, Aaron did eventually, and the wild Pokemon he chilled with. But seriously. Poor kid.

YEP. A bunch of nice business casual clothes
and then there's that... and his Ranger Hot Dad shirt. And probably other goofy t-shirts that have been given to him. X"D
