Description First illustration of the year for my Illustration III class. The assignment was to illustrate one word and have the class guess what it is. Can you?

I had a lot of fun experimenting with this piece. I already knew my favorite color combination for art is blue, orange and red. It thoroughly pleased me in this piece, too. I experimented with linework (or the lack thereof) around the bird. The background was a huge experimentation that I though might be too busy, but came out excellent, and the chains in front were an experiment with gel medium.

A good way to start off the year!

Time: ~9 hours
Media: Acrylic, gel medium

Is the one word "awesome?" 'Cause it is. My actual guess would be freedom for three reasons. First, chains usually mean a restriction of some sort and the bird is clearly out of reach from all of them. The second reason is because the bird is high in the air away from anything earthly with its wings spread out freely. My last reason are the wings themselves. Since the tips go beyond the scope of the background, the bird seems unrestrained, even by the picture. Well done.
