Description As of late i've been re reading the "how to train your dragon" book series and it's always been one of my favourites, but i'd never actually drawn any art of it?
So here we go!
Hiccup, Fishlegs, Snotlout and Dogbreath's dragons !

I've always been more of a book fan over the movies, not to say the movies aren't great in their own right!

I love the designs! They’re so different and refreshing in my opinion. Seriously, this series deserves a medal. I mean, just look at everything explored in the series. What do you think?

I completely agree, Cressida's world is extremely vivid and rich with detail, it's brilliant! Especially for a series designed for kids! It's refreshing to see something so well thought out for the younger audience.
I'm 18 and i still adore the series! It's just so .. so good.

I know, right? Hiccup's character development (through angst) is probably one of the best character developments in my book, and Snotlout's redemption arc... well, probably the best redemption arc I've read about. Seriously, the themes and foreshadowing are probably some of my favorite parts, especially the coming-of-age theme. I agree! I'm 16 and I'm still into the series with a hell of a passion. Seriously though the last four books felt like they weren't for kids haha. Just asking, which is your favorite book/arc if you have to choose one?

They look great! well done!
And agree with the books beeing way better than the movies. I finally finished reading the series this august and with every other book I was more and more sad about some differences between. (and now I can't stop trying to draw HTTYD books fanart as well lol).

Thank you!
I think the books had a richer storyline, but I enjoy the films all the same! Just treat them like two different stories, I suppose!

Treat them like two different stories, yeah, that'S what I think too, because yes when they're take like that, they're enjoyable and I liked them. But it's a bit hard when the characters have same name, something that annoys me the most with Fishlegs - especially after finishing the whole series - he's just a great character in the books but in the movies... eh. Well to be honest, basically all characters - except Hiccup probably - in the movies feel a bit flat. Especially when the same name reminds you of the original book version... *sigh*

Wonderful. All four are wonderful, but I love your rendering of Horrorcow. I saw her differently in my head when I read the books and I've drawn her as I saw her. That does not stop me from loving how she looks in other peoples art. Personally, I think the looseness of Cressida Cowell's drawings is a blessing as we fans of the series get to see so many takes on what the characters look like. I've read some of the Wings of Fire series and the fan art for that series doesn't excite me as much as this series and I think that is because the W.O.F. characters are so well defined in the official book illustrations and everybody tries to stay faithful to those drawings.

Thank you so much! I appreciate it
I suppose we all have our versions of how we see characters in our minds whilst reading, that's part of the magic of books for me! (or, in my particular case, audiobooks are my choice)
I agree completely, though I never got into WOF, I didn't know it existed up until a couple of months ago in all honesty.
Cressida's illustrations are fantastic for their loose style, she still manages to get expression and emotion into very airy character designs. It must be a treat for children to imagine!
I know it was for me when i was younger.

This is so good ! I absolutely love the colors and the designs you gave each dragon, and the paper drawings and textures on the background are a really nice touch !

Thank you so much!! that means a lot to me!! I'm glad the little details didn't go unnoticed
Since the books left designs quite loose, I had lots of fun mucking about with designs!

I'm so so glad they were recognisable! I tried to do more with posing than I usually would and i'm happy to see it paid off
