Yeah, there are some. And I'm one of them. LOL Most of the time I'm the typical guy and like to get in and out of a store but occasionally I actually don't mind shopping. It depends on what we're shopping for of course too. It's odd how society in general can't seem to stop thinking in terms of stereotypes or blanket statements. One of the most common in my case is the "are you blind?" question. When I answer, "I'm visually impaired" most people will get confused and ask what that means. Then inevitably they'll asked, "so what can you see?" And that's a loaded question. There's no really definite answer for it. There are too many variables. Some of which are to do with lighting, color contrast, and how large of an object I'm looking at. In terms visual acuity I'm 20/400 and correction isn't possible at this time. So a little example... Say I'm folding laundry on the bed with a pastel blue bed spread and I'm looking for a light green sock. Most likely I wouldn't be able to tell the sock was there because the shades are too similar. But say it were a hot pink sock, then it would be plenty visible against the bed spread. If I'm out side, it makes a big difference weather it's sunny or not. My eyes are very light sensitive so lots of sun makes it really hard, even with contrasting colors to see stuff. So yeah, it's very hard to answer that question in a simple way and what I put here is just the tip of the iceberg. And no two visually impaired people have the same issues either. It depends first on the eye condition and then the severity of the eye condition and then all of the little variables that makes a person an individual. My mom and I, for example, have the same eye condition and a lot of what we can and can't see is similar but there are a few differences on what helps and what doesn't. So yeah, stereotypes and blanket statements have always been a pet peeve of mine.
