He was a extremely successful tycoon, he had dealt with all sorts of shrewd people people and bested them. Why would this bumpkin woman be any different? She showed him enough magic to satisfy his skeptical mind. But how could she be all that astute living in a run down cottage far from the out skirts of town? With nigh immortality he would rule the world, at first from the shadows then later outright. That was the plan anyway... He did not consider that if magic existed there had to be a mechanism that kept the world seeming mundane to the majority of people. A reason that djinn twisted wishes, that the curse of tokens of power is to elude their pursuers. And there is immortality not true eternal life, an impossibility, but a state where one's demise had to come externally not from the body's betrayal and wearing out. In one sense he was lucky not ending up as a stature or his spirit trapped in a tree or mountain growing mad as time trudged forward. But he became a hag, who generated mistrust and unease in people. Doomed to be despised shunned and avoided by most. He thought he could continue his life as it was and did not press for details when she spoke in vague terms.
