This wasn't even supposed to be a thing that was shaded or even finished...my friend and I were drawing together and she asked me,
"Dang it, how do you make a shadow dragon without it being edgy?"
"I dunno."
*Has idea for a shadow dragon*
It turned into a smokey dragon, and maybe it is edgy, but I don't care. I love it. I meant to just make a quick sketch (without any references...bad anatomy, sorry) and some smoke. But then one thing led to another and suddenly I had a shaded dragon with armor.
The armor isn't shaded because it's supposed to be SUPER black, like that vantablack stuff. Unfortunately, since I didn't initially plan on doing anything other than the smoke I chose a poor pose for designing a dragon. I can't draw a lot of things from the front without seeing it from the side first, so the body is plain and there are no wings. Oh well. I still like it.

The armor markings are meant to terrify/intimidate enemies. They can stop glowing if she wants.
They use shadow magic and can melt into the shadows.
The dragon pictured is Sahmna. She serves Princess Renulaza and is a Monarch Dragon, her "wings" being markings on her side (additional pictures: artfight.net/character/318028.… )
