"now that i'm gone,
scream your loudest if he's in your basement...
if he's touching your skin, i'll kill him
i'll paint this whole town red.
crack my heart, and spill it.

were you surprised to see me waiting?
cause i had half the nerve to leave,
then i lost the will to breathe.
i'm choking on this, i'm choking,
look at me."

Aha. Ah I effing hate it when I get somewhere and I see these HUGE old trees with the most amazing stance, like really awesome textures and ah! Then I dont have my camera ... :/

i've had that same problem before :/ it's sad. i always just take a mental picture with my brain, in hopes that some day we can transmit mental images into digital ones
i try to bring my camera everywhere i go, just in case but sometimes, when i really need it most, i don't

Thats just how it happens! haha.
Lol, mental into digital XD. Thats past our lifetime I fear
Luckily my digital camera is small, ts a Power Shot D10, so its easy to take with me. I've pissed quite a few people off with the fact that I take better pictures with my $500 camera than they do with their $1050 cameras So much fun!

wow yeah i'm amazed too. with my camera, i just have problems with noise, but i'm pretty sure that's because my camera is always set on 800 ISO in manual... i haven't figured out how to change it :/ it has an option for the shutter speed (which i thought WAS the ISO, but apparently not ) and also for aperture... i've tried all the buttons, but none lead to the ISO
but anyway. i have always wished i could go to the future. just to see all the technology, and the styles and such...

Yeh.. that'd be pretty cool.
Hehehe, seems like you need some camera training . Dont you have like a manual or something for the camera?!

Well... it's bark, but the black and white work.

AForAdultery In reply to thatpersona [2010-05-03 07:01:33 +0000 UTC]

xD look past the bark. look at the textures... the cracks... the contrast... sometimes it doesn't matter WHAT a picture is, but what it means. click download to look closer

and, btw, do you think it's too dark?

Do I think it's too dark. Not really.

it's good, what I can see that can be change is a slight change of color.

change of color in what way?

kmm i don't know, i would just experiment with different copy's till you think it looks better or the way you like XD

The texture here is amazing!

Have you tried to convert it to black and white? It could really bring the texture out, even though it is great already.

AForAdultery In reply to aki-o [2010-04-29 02:29:45 +0000 UTC]

yeah i did try it... don't really know why, but it just didn't look right.
any suggestions? maybe i should crop the right side or the bottom...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aki-o In reply to AForAdultery [2010-04-29 19:52:08 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, sometimes photos just don't work in b&w. How did you try to convert it? Different methods will give you different results (personally, I use 'Channel Mixer' adjustment layer in Photoshop).

I'm not sure whether cropping it would work - it may end up looking like the log was falling down from the photo. You could try cropping most of the blurred bits out from the left, and some from the right, maybe make it a square - if it will work in b&w, then I certainly suggest you try it, so the texture is really the main focus.

back when i tried it in black and white before, i used the "black and white" tool in PS (simply because i liked to control the luminosity of each color) but now i always use silver efex by nik software. it works pretty well, and i think i'll go and mess around with it right now.
i'm not sure if it will work as a square... mainly because of the angle. if it were from directly in front of the log, it would have looked better for that format. but we shall see!

AForAdultery In reply to AForAdultery [2010-05-03 06:04:46 +0000 UTC]

turned it to a square (sorta) and turned it black and white xD

what do you think?

aki-o In reply to AForAdultery [2010-05-10 11:48:41 +0000 UTC]

oh, sorry for the late reply, didn't see this one...

It does look great now - the texture stands out as it should. I like the high contrast as well. Was it done with this 'silver efex' software? If so, I must have a look, because the effect here is amazing.

AForAdultery In reply to aki-o [2010-05-10 23:50:52 +0000 UTC]

yes it was done with silver efex it just gives you more control over what areas are light and which are dark... and you can also use colored filters, film effects (grain settings), and adjust contrast.
if you can, silver efex and other tools made by nik software, can be downloaded via torrents... i can give you a link if you'd like.

also, the texture might look clearer because i just started sharpening my pictures after i re-size them. guess it just never occurred to me to do that in the past xD

aki-o In reply to AForAdultery [2010-05-26 18:04:52 +0000 UTC]

I looked at silver efex, it looks quite awesome. But I don't think dA would appreciate people sending torrent links, and I don't trust torrents anyway - but thanks

Hehe, it didn't occur to me to sharpen photos AFTER re-sizing until someone mentioned it in a tutorial or something, so you're not alone in that

Sorry for taking ages to reply (you probably don't even remember what I'm writing about...)

AForAdultery In reply to aki-o [2010-05-28 01:51:21 +0000 UTC]

i guess dA hates me then... i've sent a couple of torrent links on here >_<

yeah, it didn't occur to me EITHER... until i noticed how the details looked so blurred after re-sizing them manually (instead of dA doing it). i always just thought it was a fault with dA's re-sizing method

no worries. i'm a major procrastinator with replying to messages xP
