Description

In 7 years of various walks around the greater Cape Peninsula, this is the first otter I have seen. They are shy, and live around river mouths. This one was thinking about coming in, but saw us about 40m away, and changed its mind.

Thank you.

A fair chunk of luck with him looking to come in. Previous sightings have been 100's of metres away, skittling amongst the rocks, breathlessly reported by other family members. This was a really quiet spot.

You're welcome. Were you at Cape of Good Hope National Park? Or elsewhere in the area?

Betty's Bay is across the other side of False Bay - about 50 Km west of the Cape Peninsula and the (very lovely!) park there. Parts of it are a nature reserve with various rules about what one can do, but not a full on national park. This is just a very quiet spot by a river mouth.
