Description Man it's been a while since I've done one of these. Thought of doing this picture because.....

1: I haven't drawn much Fruits Basket fan art.

and 2: Thought it could fit a lot of peoples reactions to the sudden tone change to the show.

If Tohru wasn't scared enough already......

Madoka Magica is not the first to have that, and it isn't different for that reason. Other Magical Girl shows have that sort of stuff too, even Frikkin Sailor Moon!

Seriously! Sailor Moon had death scenes like this girl being Stabbed To Death by a Giant Stake! Look here, I found a screenshot of it! -->   i.imgur.com/a4cgUIF.jpg

Not only that, but if I recall correctly, All of the Sailor Scouts died horribly and miserably at some point in the series too. Ask any Sailor Moon fan, they did!

Watch this video. It shows all the miserable ways that the girls in Sailor Moon met their doom. -->   www.youtube.com/watch?v=reUvy7…

And jeez. Molly's boyfriend. He died. And I'm pretty sure her Mom died in front of her too because she was transformed into a monster, right when the show was just beginning and Usagi was learning how to use her powers.

And that one torturous scene where Usagi had to climb barefoot up a tall staircase covered in sharp thorns, in order to reach her friends and save them.

And they had a bit where everyone was obsessed with rabbits and then the rabbits turned out to be soul-sucking creatures.

And then those episodes in the amusement park where Ami was the only one safe because she couldn't be frozen or something like that.

And then when they were "normal girls" I remember the Sailor Moon novels mentioning that Usagi had nightmares from fighting the Negaverse for so long.

Sailor Saturn's whole first arc was pretty depressing, too.

But yet Sailor Moon was still E-rated and Family Friendly, because it had No Blood, No Swearing, No Sex, No Drugs, and No Nudity.
Same what I think about Madoka Magica. So what if there's characters dying in it? It has No Blood and Guts, No Swearing, No Sex, No Drugs, and No Nudity. I'd still say it's E-rated.

Here's the REAL reasons why it's different from other Magical Girl shows.

1. There is no "Queen Beryl or Rita Repulsa-esque" Head Honcho Villain who is sitting on her throne, sending out the enemies after them (I always found Queen Beryl in Sailor Moon to be similar to Rita Repulsa in Power Rangers, Dr Hell in Mazinger Z, and also similar to baddies like King DeDeDe in Kirby and the Head Honchos in Jojo's Bizzare Adventure).

Like in most Magical Girl shows, there's always a Queen Beryl-esque head Honcho shown at the start who is like in each episode "Hahahaha, I'll send this one of my Random Minions after them, it will be the best way to deal with those troublesome heroes, and then I'll rule the world, BWA-HAHAHAHA!"
And most of the time, the random minion she sends out has something to do with a particular personal problem or place they are at or other such situation they are in for the episode.

Then when the Random Minion is defeated, she's like "Blast, how could that minion have lost? But I'll be back with another one, and next time You Sailor Scout Heroes will Regret This," or something like that.

Other Magical Girl animes also had a Head Honcho like that sending them out, including Tokyo Mew Mew and Pretty Cure.

In Madoka Magica though, there is no Queen Beryl or Rita-esque Head Honcho sending them out after them. The Witches are acting on their own behalf, and not because some Beryl or Rita clone personally sent them after the girls as part of their plan for world domination. Not to mention, the Witch they face against is never specifically designed for the  particular personal problem or place they are at or other such situation they are in for the episode.

And the presence of a Queen Beryl or Rita Repulsa style Head Honcho villain sending them out or not makes a BIG DIFFERENCE.

2. In Madoka Magica, they never say something like "WE WILL WIN BY USING THE POWERS OF LOVE," or something like that, like they always exclaim out loud in Sailor Moon and other such Magical Girl shows. That also makes a BIG DIFFERENCE from Sailor Moon and other Magical Girl series.

3. The art style of the Witches and their minions and barriers, which by the way, reminds me of corny and ridiculous stuff like Courage The Cowardly Dog, Chowder, Flapjack, The Amazing World of Gumball, Betty Boop, and other such goofy shows, which also use those art styles too, and is why I can't take the series seriously, although it is still good though.
Heck, even SpongeBob used those Art Styles at times, like with "DOES THIS LOOK UNSURE TO YOU" and "The Fly Of Despair." It just made it even more ridiculous and silly-looking at those parts too.

The foes in Sailor Moon don't use that Art style for them though, which makes it different.
Here's how the majority of the bad guys they fight in Sailor Moon look like -->   img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20…   www.soul-hunter.com/sailormoon…

4. The Boss Battles are more action-packed and cooler, unlike most Magical Girl shows.

Like in Sailor Moon, all the battles were basically this. She runs around a bit, waves her staff in the air, yells out "MOON TIARA MAGIC!" and then seals them away. That's it.

Or other times Usagi chickens out in the middle, because she's a coward.
And then the other Sailor Scouts would have to do the honors for her, but still not making it a big action-packed Boss Fight.
Or her mysterious benefactor, Tuxedo Mask, would arrive and encourage her with a pep talk.
Or she'd be saved by sheer dumb luck. That's it.

Not a big and long fight with lots of Parkour Moves and Explosions and Cool Attacks to damage the foe until it goes down, which Madoka Magica has instead. Madoka Magica's Boss Fights are more cooler and full of combat, Like something out of Final Fantasy, Xenoblade, Bayonetta, Persona, Kingdom Hearts, or other cool action-packed things like that.

Well most of them anyways, but a couple of them really weren't that good, especially near the end of the series, and could've been a lot better.
