I had this strange dream... I was walking down some old grey steps and into a pool of forgetfullness...
I agree with jishquosh about the railing.
great shot!

Image is sweet Agent Smith, I like your style.
I don't want to seem critical, in fact the opposite. Not sure how good your cloning skills in photochop are, but I reckon that if you removed the railing from the image it would add a real sense of vertigo to the scene that would accentuate the mysterious qualities you've already created. Getting rid of the rails would also remove the reference to modernity and give a real timelessness to the piece.
Although, the image is sweet as is and I know how boring pixel fixing is. Gets a fav anyway, are you going to release it as a print?

Sorry for the delay in replying to you as I have had a very busy week. Thank you for your very detailed comments and critique which I very much appreciate. You have made a really excellent and interesting suggestion about those rails. When I get the time, I will try out your idea and if I like it I will post it for you. About the print ... I am considering putting some of my images up as prints but I need to sit down and work that one out. I will bear your question in mind. Thanks very much for you appreciations as well ... Cheers!, Eugene

God knows how many times I saw smth like this in my life... I live on a lake and in autumn or winter this scene is not strange to see, but I never had the idea to make such a clever shot! Really good job, I like all the series!

Andy,
Thanks very much indeed for your very generous comments my man. Apopreciated.
How I did it? Well I went out and forgot my ND filter. Doh! So when I got around to processing this the water was not as blurred as I had hoped to get it in the shot so I blurred it a bit more. After I got all the edits and processing done in the conversion, I saved the image. Then I made two duplicates of this finished image, which gave me three layers. I selected the middle layer and applied a gaussian blur to this layer to the degree of blur that I wanted in the water. The trouble is though when you do this everything is blurred, including the rails and the steps etc etc which I didnt want blurred. I solved this by then selecting the layer above the blurred layer. I made a layer mask (layer mask, reveal all) and I brushed out the water area on this layer to let the blurred water come through from the layer beneath. You have to be very careful though doing this and you have to make precise selections in order to keep the rails and steps areas sharp. Lots of fine detail work in here but it's worth it. It's a lot easier though not to forget your ND filter and do it very late in the evening to get that long exposure but it's fun too. I then flattened the image and did more final editing to taste work and some selective sharpening. Thanks for asking Andy !

Needless to say, all the photos in the "Steps" series are really excellent and mystical.

wonderful long exposure... did you use a grey filter to allow long exposure under daylight?

Thanks very much for the comment. No I didnt use any filter on this one because it was very late in the evening and the light was nearly gone. I got a good blur on the water but I also had to process it more in order to get this effect I wanted. Thanks again.
