Description

And she is done. And I’ve named her Amethyst, after the birthstone, because I’ve always liked that as a name.

Final thoughts

Overall I’m very happy with the piece, however, I feel like I rushed the end. In that, I feel like something is missing but I can’t seem to think/see what it is.

Once again I had a decently clear idea of what I wanted, a mermaid on a rocky shore, I wanted caves, a water dragon, and fish. And that’s what I produced. Concept wise it’s exactly what I envision. I think composition wise it also works. My eyes are drawn to the character, then the dragon then the fish. The cool blues and warm browns seem to balance each other out, I don’t feel like they are in competition.

I think the dill on her bikini top is a little lost in the overall image so that is something I’m not too happy with. To that end, I do wish there was more vegetation in the picture but it’s a wintery scene on a rocky beach.

As far as February correspondences go:

February is both Air and Water signs and to me, those things are best seen at sea or the ocean. So I knew I wanted a scene depicting water. When I think of the Aquarius sign I think of mermaids and I’m not sure why I just do. I choose the scene to be at dawn, cause I imagine that the most opportune time to see a mythical mermaid on the rocks of a cliff would be in the early misty morning.

Went heavy on the blues and greens but chose to go with a yellow tone brown to balance it out.

Compared to Capria:January this is simpler in the composition but I think it suits it.
