I once served as an interpreter for a game in Spanish, the 3 compadres just ignored everything any ways, so sometimes is not even a matter of language barrier, some people are just assholes.

I had exactly this a couple of days ago myself, was playing CM and NOBODY spoke english, I don't even know what language they WERE speaking, and at one point I thought 1 team-mate spoke english, until I realised he was only immitating me :/ pretty sure they were mocking me and just mucking around the whole game and of course we lost haha... was not an enjoyable game in the slightest :/ so this is indeed a very accurate picture!

I, myself, who's a Russian raised in Sweden, do understand that the other "comrades" usually insist on going their own way instead of cooperating for the best of gaming or fun, hard as I may try with my limited Russian knowledge. That has been annoying enough that it seems to give the people of their kind an awkward name in online gaming. If only enough people realized that it's our 'magna carta', currently the English language, that unites us different people the most.

if the player use simple english try to communicate, that is okay....i've meet some player (non-english speaking) that totally seems like "ignoring" you or your suggestion and going to throw the game..that one is the worst.

If you dont know english, atleast learn basic commands like "back" ._.

hence that's why valve made the chat wheel. but i don't use it because it makes me use more of my time to configure that in game.
usually i just assign Missing! ine my G button.
other than that nah people won't listen your "back" unless you highlight some hero on the way to kill him, but most of the time...fog of war will make him not retreat back and later on he still get killed.
well generally i mean those average skill player.
but this comic more of like... they way they talk too much in team chat with foreign language until i really fed up because I feel being ignored in game.
