Yay! Another blog to follow blindly and.....wait.....is that Jack Frost riding the Alpha.....I......I......I want it......
But avoiding spoilers is good. I kind of had the devastating moment spoiled, so I was robbed of feels. But the FEEEEEEEELS D: Especially with everything that had JUST HAPPENED. Like, not even a days solace and happiness. NOPE. They needed to twist the knife after wrenching out my heart.
And I hope to see these doodles.....as I may or may not request that you make some into prints, given the RotG crossover one. xD

LMAOO just a small doodle this time~~
I HAD NO IDEA THAT MOMENT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN- I thought I spoiled almost the entire movie for myself because I caught up with the latest news and all the latest clips and stuff?!?!? BUT THAT MOMENT JUST HIT ME ALL AT ONCE and then while I was still trying to get over it, HICCUP JUST PUSHES HIS DRAGON AWAY AND IT HURT ME SO MUCH. It was so realistic and UGH-
LOOOOL please let me know! I'm never too sure what to make into prints because I don't get much feedback on tumblr other than the # of notes and the tags I read. ;;;

GAAHHH, THE LOOK IN HIS EYES WHEN HE GOT SHOVED AWAY!!! I didn't know specifically how the scene played out, but I knew the result. So watching Toothless do it made it way more tragic than I anticipated. But yeah, given all the trailers, news, gubbins, etc. I knew how the majority of the movie would play out as well. BUT HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR THAT?! Especially, and I mean ESPECIALLY, after the song/dance. After seeing everything be so adorable and wonderful and perfect.....I'M GOING TO CRY IN A CORNER NOW, KAY THANKS!!
You should know by now that, given my way, I'd see all your art made into prints. ^^uΒ
But I will give you as much feedback as possible in regards to what would be good for prints. Though that'll be somewhat annoying to do on Tumblr (what with me being inept only when it comes to that site) so I guess here is the only option I've got to give you feedback.

WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME RELIVE THIS MOMENT OMG JOEL-- I think that it's great to see everything in clips because.. in all honesty, it just built my excitement more, and I think it would've been so overwhelming trying to watch everything anew all at once LMAO- I'm ridiculously so emotionally invested in these movies. OTL;; I've been repeating the soundtrack (especially 'For the Dancing and Dreaming') and just seeing these images all over my dash just-- o(-<
Haha that's fine, thanks! I'm not too sure if I'd make them into prints because by the time the next con rolls around, I'm not sure how big the fandom will be but I'll see! \o/

BECAUSE YOU WERE DOING IT TO ME, KIND OF, SORT OF, POSSIBLY, MAYBE.....that's all I have to go on.
I agree that seeing everything in clips is good...unless it spoils major scenes/plot points or shows off everything the movie has to offer. (ie. When trailers show all the funny/memorable scenes and the movie is sub-par for the rest) But you want to talk emotionally invested to these movies/fandom? I fell asleep listening to the first movie for almost two months straight. I pulled quotes from the movie and started using them in everyday life (Even when no body knew anything about the movie)Β
I'm not sure I can listen to that song without getting a bit melty on the inside. GRACE WHY!?! WHY WOULD YOU MAKE ME LOOK AT PHOTOS OF THE REUNION SCENE?! WHY WOULD YOU MAKE ME EVEN THINK OF THE REUNION SCENE!? SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE I DIE A LITTLE EACH TIME I THINK OF IT (from joy, not sadness)
I really hope the fandom grows. I would love to see people falling madly in love with these movies, and who doesn't love dragons? People who are wrong, that's who. But if it doesn't grow, then at least I have one person to rant about my love for it. And it's alright if they don't get made into prints. Whatever does is going to my collection regardless.

LMAOO- I'm sorry Joel, the feelings got too great.
I think that the trailer did the spoiling of a major scene.. with the introduction of his mother and all. Haha I got the DVD and watched it for 2 months straight.. I think we're about on par for our love for this film- even to this day I still pull some of the quotes from the movie too, I can probably say it word for word from having watched it so many times. I even watched it recently twice in a row, once to just watch it and the second to hear the filmaker commentary. They have a lot of interesting things to say actually.
For the dreaming and dancing is so beautiful, it always makes me cry. ;;_;; You should go look up Alexander Rybak's "Into a Fantasy"! It's his tribute to the film (he does the Norweign VA) and it's such a lovely song!!Β
I've actually seen a huge number of people have respect for the franchise, and even if they're not nearly as invested as we are, it's still nice to know that they know why I'm going on and on about it LMAO. You should really look around on tumblr, there's a ton of great posts and things that people share . Let's dragon our lives away yayayayaya-- \o/

It's okay, the feelings get out of control with the series from time to time. For good reason.
And yeah, the mother reveal could have been something HUGE since she's barely mentioned in the first movie. They could have kept it a secret and shocked us all, but instead, we expected it so it wasn't as big an impact. Though, we probably would have seen it coming from just watching the movie since she gets brought up a few times before they show her. But I suppose it IS intended for children and they wouldn't catch those signs. And there are very few movies I can recite front to back, but that was absolutely one of them. I love when I find a movie that as soon as I've finished watching it, I rewind to the beginning and watch it again. Even if my attention isn't fully on it, it's still phenomenal.
Fun fact: The day I manage to have a girlfriend and propose, I am absolutely singing For The Dancing And The Dreaming to do so. It's the perfect song to use after all (Especially since she'd have to be in love with HTTYD herself) Heck, I wish I was still in university so I could use that song as a dissertation piece. And yes, Into A Fantasy is beautiful. My only critique on it is that it feels a bit more Scottish than Norse, which is what I would have expected, but it's still wonderful.
And yes, respect isn't that uncommon, especially in animated movies nowadays since most people in our age range still go out and see every animated film, even just once. And though we get let down from time to time, every now and then, we'll find a gem like HTTYD. And yes, I SHOULD look around on tumblr.....the day I actually get around to learn the site. ^^u And can dragons please be real? It would be so much more fun to be a dragonrider than a normal everyday person.

Well the Dean Debois did say he didn't want it to be revealed, but it was the company that made the decision to release it. But yeah, I'm pretty sure the kids didn't pick up on it and just really wanted more hiccup and toothelss. I just wish more kids watched it though since dragons isn't doing as well in theatres as they hoped. T_T;;
Haha that would be the cutest!!! I hope whenever that day comes, it'll be a joyous moment for both of you. ;w ;Β
I REALLY WANT TO BE A DRAGON RIDERRR, can you imagine how much simpler life would be... no more being all of me and just dedicate all my time to studying the great beasts.Β

On the topic of dragon riders (before I forget) did you know THIS:Β dreamworksdragonslive.com/ was a thing?!? I mean.....GEEZ REALLY?! How do I get to perform for that, because it's the closest thing to ever getting to fly real dragons that we're going to get.
And it makes sense for a filmmaker to want his movie secrets to be kept secret. Though in that same light, all movies need to be put out there to get people to see them, and you can't convince people to see a movie without showing them anything about it. I mean, unless it's a Marvel/Disney/Pixar movie. Those are things that need no media to get people to see them. They could announce one of those movies a week before it released and every theatre would be sold out. And while I find it super sad that the movie isn't doing as well as they hoped....it's made over 100 million dollars so far....about 50% was opening weekend. I doubt it'll have problems coming on par with the budget, about 145 million, but I wish it blew everything out of the water. Sadly, the fandom is not what we wish it would be.
And hey, I'll film it and then forget to show you the footage. You know, like the reaction footage of when you randomly made all of AN 2013 worthwhile by just coming by and giving me those postcards. I know I said it before, but I've never felt as touched in that moment as I have in my whole life.

LOL YEAHHH my friend told me about it during AN and apparently it was pretty good?? They had a glitch during their show though, like toothless got stuck midway and just hung in the middle of nowhere-Β
I agree with you completely. I think unless you have an established name for yourself, it's kinda hard to get people to pay attention to you. I think with dreamworks, even though their movies are a hit and miss, I still love that they're always creating different stories and characters. I love disney as they are, but you can't deny that the effort put into texturing, different character designs, etc. are so much more prominent in dreamworks creations. I just wish the general public appreciated them too. ;-; And yeah I'm so incredibly disappointed that so few people are going to see the movie.. I mean there are a lot of great movies that are out at the moment, but dragons is one that definitely rivals all of them with great story, animation, and just.. everything. People are missing out on so much not being able to see it in 3D once it gets taken out of theatres. :T
Oh gosh, I was just so incredibly happy to find you again and finally be able to say hi. I'm really glad it made your weekend though, it totally made mine as well LMAO, despite my awkwardness. \o/

You knew but didn't ask if I knew? D: T-T
I absolutely would have gone to see that. Even with a technical glitch, I'm sure it's a great show. I don't know if it would be on the level of, say, The Lion King production, but it's also not a Broadway level musical.
It really does suck that people aren't going to go see it. Though, on the 3D thing, I think most people are over the gimmick of 3D. It really doesn't add anything to movies at current, apart from having to endure glasses on glasses for people like myself. What with being unable to wear contacts. And while I'm sure in bigger cities it's easier to find non-3D showings, here, it's always in 3D for the first 80% and then the last few showings are non-3D.
But DreamWorks does have some hit and miss in their history. I mean, they needlessly beat Shrek into the ground, which is what worries me about this. Even if it hasn't gone quite as well ad hoped, it's made over 200 million between domestic and international. Which means, despite not doing quite as hoped, it's still generating revenue for them. Which, in their eyes, could very well mean another movie to squeeze out. But I absolutely agree that the texture quality and animation fat surpass Pixar movies, but I'm not sure it's fait to compare the two. Pixar is far more cartoon in their visual style so texture quality isn't AS important to them. Pixar has always been far more about the story. They, admittedly, have better writers than DW. I suppose my main desire for any animated picture is that they put on the very best with every picture they create. We all trust Disney and Pixar (though I feel like they are trying to milk the Cars/Planes IP way too much).
I still don't know what you mean about you being awkward when that happened. I was the awkward one, as per the norm. \o/
But I'm certainly more happy I made your weekend that year. It's rare for something to make my weekend like that did, but if the feeling I felt is what I can provide to people, I can't think of a better thing to provide you or them. Hey, even this year, getting to interact with you, even for a short while, was enough to make the weekend worth it for me. As much as I want to rant on and on about Elicia, and make people love her, I far prefer making new friends and seeing old ones. And making friends is very hard when you are in full character since people only ever see you as who you are acting as. ^^u

OHH I THOUGHT YOU KNEW since it's like.. a couple years old now?
Did you hear that Dreamworks laid off 30-50 people..? T_T;; I'm so sad because even though it wasn't the fault of HTTYD2, the company didn't make enough to sustain the extra animators...Β
I think that most movies abuse the 3D aspect and it gets to the point where you brain just completely gets habituated to it. Like your sensory systems just view it as normal and your brain switches off the added effects because of it's overusage. With dragons, I thought that the 3D was worth every penny. Usually I get a headache, with the double glasses thing, but this movie used it sparingly? Or so I felt. I didn't really feel the effects of watching 3D until it was at the most important parts, which added depth to the emotions, the scenery, and the flying scenes. With Frozen I felt so dizzy when watching in 3D, but dragons I didn't feel the same? I'm not sure until they release more info, but this is the first movie I've ever watched where I thoroughly enjoyed it better in 3D (I watched it in 2D too and it didn't feel the same).
I agree, but to be honest, since the company doesn't have the same strong name as Disney, it needs its sequels to bring in cashflow. As for comparing - I think it's fair to compare Disney/Dreamworks since they're working in the same medium. I agree Pixar was always stronger in terms of visual style and story, but not Disney haha (though are they merged now? ). I was just reading up on this earlier because I wanted to find out why Dean Debois and Chris Sanders switched over to Dreamworks and-- link1 , link2 I do appreciate both companies equally and I honestly adore the fact they're always working hard to pump out movies, but I guess reading this through made me a tad sad because as an artist, having artistic license is a bit more important to me. Money is a huge factor in being able to create these works though, so I can understand too.
LMAO I thought it was awkward because I was carrying all my merch and I just tossed it aside to my sister to go scream 'HUGHES' LMAO. ;; But that's really great haha. Thanks again for stopping by and having that small chat with me though! I'm guess I'm kinda glad there's a whole artist community at the con so I could also make friends, but I can only imagine how hard it would be as a cosplayer. ;; At least you can still show your love for the series and hopefully meet others in that way too!

I absolutely did not know. I don't even know how I just stumbled upon it now, but I wish i had known when it first became a thing. I'd have jumped on that SO fast.
......They what.......but.....why......Why DW? HTTYD2 has made nearly 100 million in profits by now, and you can't justify spending some of that on the people you employ? Heck, The Croods made over 450 million in profits last year and you are going to try to justify laying off that many people, I mean, it just doesn't make sense.
I honestly think they make 3D movies to pull an extra profit from theatre showings. Like, why would movies that use almost no special effects need to be in 3D if not just to force people to spend those few extra dollars to see it. And for most people, the visual appeal of 3D gets lost in all of 5 minutes when your eyes have completely accepted it as part of the movie. Which is why they can keep forcing it on movies. If it caused everyone eyestrain, or devalued the movie for the majority of viewers, it wouldn't be a thing. But people like you and I, who have to wear glasses on glasses, we notice and it bothers us, but the number of people who need to do that is so small, and the number of people who write off 3D movies is even smaller. And I wish I could say that I thought the 3D was worth it for HTTYD2, but I really can't. I would have loved that movie just as much if it were 2D. 3D just simply won't be a big factor in the creation of movies until it's a thing that can be more streamlined at home with dvd/blu-ray releases. When that day comes, I feel like the technology and skills required to make all movies 3D will have progressed to the point when it adds to the dynamic of seeing a movie and doesn't ruin the visual appeal. But for now, the fakey, 3-layer effects are all we have.
And I'm not saying DW needs to avoid sequels. If anything, they do sequels better than Disney (given the number of Disney sequels that exist, and yet none of them were very good...maybe Lion King 2....) since I love almost every sequel they put out...almost... What I find the least appealing is the way they push out all the straight-to-dvd specials and whatnot, which I don't ever wind up seeing. Like, there are who knows how many HTTYD ones out that I've never seen, and frankly, I don't' want to see them because I worry that they will have lower budgets and subsequently be bad. Though, on the visual aspects, I think Disney has increased leaps and bounds over the past few years in their solo endeavors into 3d-style animation, (I might also be obsessed with Wreck-It Ralph so call me biased) but I find their cgi/digital effects in live-action movies appallingly bad (I'm looking at you Maleficent). And it does always make me worry that the quality of their next movie might drop because they can get away with it. And I don't want to see anything but their best because, at the end of the day, this is an art form, and if the soul of the people who worked on it isn't reflected in the final product, it's just going to leave a sour taste in my mouth.
If I recall, I was still eating my breakfast when you ran up (or it might have been some baked goods someone offered me and my Loki-friend) and I was worried I was talking with food still in my mouth. And you screaming Hughes would be the least awkward thing you could do in front of me. I've spent 4 years now hearing high pitched squeals from the other side of the parking lot so it's just standard to me now. And hey, if I didn't stop by to talk, you'd probably think you have real reason to back up your thoughts of being awkward (which are still so not true). And I think Hughes is going to go into retirement for a few years. I need to try other things at some point in my cosplay life before the real world tries to bring me down.

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't checked DA in a while haha. ;;
As for them laying people off on DWA, it's because the company never recovered from ROTG which cost a lot to produce and didn't really do that well in theatres. As for making profits, it grossed but they didn't /earn/ that much.. In order for a film to be considered successful, they have to make 1.5x the costs DOMESTICALLY.. which they're close to but not yet reached that point.
That's a reasonable point but I think certain movies are made with the idea of 3D. Particularly this one. I mentioned earlier they use it sparingly, not the ENTIRE movie, but you can see those effects when they bring it in during landscapes, particularly the flying scenes and when they reveal the dragons. It made a huge difference for me, so much I'm willing to pay extra to go see it twice haha (going to watch httyd2 for the fourth time today yattaaa)!
I think it's because DW treats their sequels with as much respect as the original film rather than spin-off with the same characters (though not saying some of them aren't like that). The HTTYD TV show is actually pretty low quality but the story and world-building aspects are really good. I think it's worth seeing and adds to the feelings that you can get when watching the second movie (ughghHH FATHER SON MOMENTS HELP). But they can get a bit cheesy so I understand why you're kinda iffy about watching them. I would suggest watching the special though (watch it in 720dpi) and maybe if you're hoping to look into the movie and its effects more, go look around at the soundworks collections and the documentary which are up on vimeo and youtube respectively!
Disney is great and have worked a lot on their effects (don't worry, I had the same obsession over frozen, however terribad the plot was, the visuality of the film blew me away). I think their quality is amazing, but they don't work on surfacing and making it asΒ realisticΒ as dreamworks does. They bend all the rules and itΒ shows?? If you were to compare the females, all of them look the same, the same usual facial structure with big eyes, etc- whereas you can SEE the extra mile that dreamworks puts in, from the textures on the dragons, the background work, etc. And yeah I agree, it really hurts to see things when the work put in isn't reflected on the final product.. which is why I love buying the artbooks to make sure I get to see the whole picture before I judge the movie (granted I only buy books that I like but that's only because of my limited wallet). ;-;
Best of luck with your next cosplays! I look forward to seeing what you do next~ ^q^

No need to apologize for taking your time. You have a life and things to do after all.
I completely forgot how bad RotG did given the size of the fandom that sprung out of it. They only made, like $100 million domestically right? It was something low like that. People probably just passed it by because it was a christmas-y movie, though I thought it was really good. But overall, it cost around the same as HTTYD2. So either DW is spending more than they can afford, or they need to rethink their marketing. Because we're having movies like Maleficent, which do bottom of the barrel quality movies, but turn profit almost immediately. But they started trailers well over a year in advance so people would go and see it. And it's necessary to have those teaser sort of trailers that are there to inform people that this thing exists and peak their interest enough to want to know more. And unfortunately, I don't think HHTYD2 has quite made their 145 million domestically yet, which is just their break even point.
Yes, adding minor depth of field effects with 3D is a good thing. We don't want the gimmicks of things jumping out of the screen at us. We want seamless immersion into the film. To get that feeling that we are in the movie. But it's almost always botched. Two specific examples being the two Amazing Spiderman movies, because in the first one, someone thought doing a 1st person view would be a cool thing, but it was disorientating, hard to follow, and lacked creativity. And in the second one, they wanted to know what it would look like if they strapped a Go-Pro to his crotch and have him swing around. Mixed with the 3D, it's by far one of the worst movie experiences I've had. And as if you get to go see it again. I have no one to go with to go see it again. xD
I'm glad you prefaced with "not all of them" because I'm sure we all wish we could forget about the 3rd Shrek movie....I may very well check out teh show, but I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking. If anything, it'll be like all kids cartoons where everything gets wrapped up at the end of the episode and isn't one continuous story. And if there is one, it'll be sub-standard. We'll see. And while I don't have time to watch all of the special right now, I did watch about 2 minutes of it just now. It's kind of irksome to see the same texture quality, yet sloppier, more static animation. Which means I will also have to save that documentary for another day.
I too enjoyed Frozen, since Jennifer Lee was the screenwriter who did Wreck-It Ralph. The thing about Frozen that bothers me is that it's "based" on The Snow Queen, yet almost no one knew that it was, or had even heard of it. But Disney took the premise of the story, gave no indication of their correlation, and made people obsess over something not entirely conceived by them. I mean, sure, Disney's main commodity is rewriting fairy tales, but the sheer amount of what was changed is worse than comparing Hercules in Disney and Greek Mythology forms. Though Frozen is a testament to what I said before about Disney being a household name as a way to sell their movies. Frozen cost only 5 million more than HHTYD2, yet it made 400 million domestically, despite having a sloppy story and having a less realistic feel to it. And you are right, character design in Frozen was also very blasΓ©, which, again, comparing to Wreck-It Ralph, seems abnormal given Lee was screenwriting it. It's just sad to see. For some reason, I can never really enjoy artbooks, given that I know I'll go through them once, then never look in them again. (I prefer my books to have some story involved)
I was about to say you'll see progress photos on the new cosplay since I'm going to psot them to Facebook, but I remembered I've only ever interacted with you here and in person. ^^u

ah-bao In reply to Dio773 [2014-07-17 19:50:17 +0000 UTC]
Yeah it made very little and I'm not even sure it even came close to making half of its costs. Personally, I liked the movie but there was a lot of plot holes to me so it wasn't a movie like dragons where I fell in love and just ruminated over it. I think it's partially their marketing, also the types/genres of the movies they make. Frozen and disney movies can bring more in because there's a higher chance people, especially their children, will want to go more than once. And bring in the fact they have those singalong versions, etc etc- that's definitely a means to make more domestically. Maleficent wasn't anything special in terms of marketing imo, but they did use big names - Lorde did the song, Angelina Jolie was the main, and it was a live-action of a film that people remember from their childhood (personally I hate disney live action remakes atm, I feel for the most part, they're just doing it so they can retain the copyright to the original 2D films since it ends in a couple of years). Also Disney marketed the film back with Frozen.. and god knows how many people have seen that over and over again. I think at this point HTTYD2 did make back + more domestically, but I haven't looked up the stats lately so..Β
I've actually never seen any of the spiderman movies LMAO;;; I don't really have much "3D" experience to reference to since I barely watch movies in theatres, let alone 3D ones. I'm making a point to a probably dead argument now, but I still think that they used it sparingly and effectively, kinda like how there are points in the film where they let the music take over, they let the visuals do their job without any clutter.
I feel like a lot of disney princess movies isn't so much that they focus on the plot or character development, but just appealing to the "feel" of the story. I mean it is targeted to kids and they probably forgive if the effects are there. It's kinda depressing though, since the American audience feels that children can't piece things together, as if they're too dumb. I could rant on and on about Frozen, but I hate it and love it at the same time and most of it has been said.Β
I have facebook actually but sadly I never log on LOL. Sorry again for replying late, I haven't logged onto DA in a while. ;;

....NO....NO I DID NOT! Links yesterday please!
Haha, we really know next to nothing about one another. And it's not too awkward to ask. Technically, I'm a student, what with still being a young baby and stuff, yet feeling incredibly old in my years. So I just work part time in the wonderful world of Walmart. So yeah. Not that glamorous or anything. Just something to pay the bills until I finish school and start a real boy job. Β
And since we're on the topic, what do you do apart from your thriving art business?

THIS ONEEE !!!Β
Ohhh what are you currently working towards in terms of your studies? I'm also a student, but in the sciences! Art is something I do at the side, though I'm really considering switching fields after I finish my undergrad. My friend works at walmart here as well haha, I guess the perks is saving 20% on merchandise? At least it pays the bills.. my art "business" if you'd like to call it that doesn't do much, aside for some extra side money... to spend on dragons. \o/

That......is..........amazing......
I have no words for how cute. And I'm at work when seeing it again.
I'm currently working towards Civil Engineering. I studied Law for 4 years and just realized I didn't love it at all. So now I'm doing something completely different. But I loved drafting blueprints of houses back when I was a kid (weird, I know), so being able to combine my skill with math and physics with my love of drafting, it seems like a no brainer. It's nothing extravagant, but it pays pretty well for what I'd be doing.
What are you considering changing your field to? I actually didn't even expect you to be a student. I don't even know why I thought that. But I'm a goof, both in and out of cosplay, so oh well. ^^u But hey, sometimes it takes going through something you don't want to do to figure out what you really want. Just do something that you would love to spend your life doing.
Yeah, working at Wal-Mart isn't glamorous, but the discount is really nice. It's only 10% though. 20 would be phenomenal. And hey, someday, your art might be super extra popular and it might make you even more money. But it's something you love doing so the money you make from it now is less like work so that's good for something.

Oohh that's cool! Haha if what did you think I was..? Did I finally appear older than what most people think I look-- I'm finishing up my degree in bio/psych and hopefully get into an architecture program afterwards... I need to look further into the requirements but I'm pretty sure I've got everything.
I hope so..! It's nice to have some spending money at the side, also the recognition is pretty neat. I think the best thing I like about being an artist is being able to connect with like-minded people who are also in the arts haha.

No way.....as if....as if you're aiming for architecture.....
That's my exact goal with studying civil engineering. I knew that in order to study architecture, I'd have to leave town, and my BA in Law really can't provide me with a sustainable job for when I do move for said courses. So, since neither the college or university in my hometown have architecture courses, I decided to take this program. Since it's only a 2 year program, I won't be in school for "much" longer and can get a job with that. My ultimate goal is to be a draftsman for both private and public works, so this covers the public sector, and, given that this should allow me to enter the graduate portion of architecture, I can have a well paying job when I move to T.O. while also expanding my knowledge.
But geez, going from Bio/Psych to Architecture....well....I guess I can't judge since I went from Law to a similar field. xD
And I really don't know how old I thought you were, I'm naturally a horrible judge of a persons age. The usual assumption I make is that the person is either 2+years younger or 2+ years older than me if I have no idea. And hey, how am I supposed to even have the slightest idea how old you are given the few brief exchanges we had over the last year? If we had talked and I had known you were a student, I'd have guessed in your early 20s. Well...either way, I figured you were 20-something, but had no real clue. But hey, when we're older, we'll wish people thought we are younger than we are. Though that's unlikely to happen for me considering my first boss thought I was 20 when I first started working for him....I was in Gr.10....Oh well, forever an old man. ^^u
Extra money is always a useful thing. Even getting $20 for spending a day doodling a piece must be a super feeling. And I can relate to the recognition thing since I assume it's a very similar feeling to being recognized in cosplay. And I can't think of a better place for people in the arts or cosplay to connect than conventions.

Ohhh icic, I'm really hoping I can enter the program, but I'll have to make some changes and really build on my portfolio..Β
I wish you well on you future endeavors though! It sounds like you put a lot of thought into it and have worked out a concise plan- I wish I could say the same for myself, but here's to hoping it all works out. AndΒ haha in my defense, it was mainly parental pressure that made me pursue my intial field, but I have no regrets because I DID learn a lot and it gave me a lot of time to hone my drawing skills.. o)-<
LOL I'm always mistaken as younger... I remember in my first year university I went to go back to visit my elementary school and the kids passing by kept asking why "she doesn't have to go to class"... and the same thing happens whenever I go into any high school too. ;;
Haha yeah extra money is great, but sadly making things also cost money so it balances out usually.. but yeah, cons are great for that and really worth the extra effort it takes to get there. Here's to hoping I'll be able to get a table next year and see you again!

Yeah, the portfolio is what matters most there. After all, you're going to be designing things, so they need to know if you are both functional and creative. So I certainly hope you get in. It'd be cool to know someone already in the field.
Oh, no....no....no....I haven't planned a thing. It's all really made up on the spot really. I'm not even sure if civil engineering would qualify as something acceptable to use to get into an architect program. All I know is that I have two years of school until I can get a decent paying job. Beyond that, everything is just wishful thinking. All I really have is the goal, and the rest I plan on leaving to spontaneity. I tried to hard to plan out everything in life when growing up and it didn't have any flex or anything as a backup. So I've simply become more flexible with life, just simply letting what happens, happen, and just roll with the punches. Though that isn't to say somethings aren't planned.
And I can understand the parental influence for getting into that. Every parent wants their kid to be super successful and be secure in their future so they tend to push them towards business/sciency/math stuff. But the important thing is that you learn while you do those things. That's all my dad cared about when I said I was changing my plans. So long as I was being educated, there was nothing wasted.
Well, you've finally found someone who didn't take you for someone still in grade school. \o/ You're welcome. But man, that must be a weird feeling having people who are obviously younger think they are around your age. Though for kids, I suppose that if the person doesn't seem SUPER old, they think they are still young, since they haven't developed that idea of intermediary age. I had a similar situation happen to me once when I went back to my high-school to visit my music teacher, and some random person told em to take off my hat. So I can apparently still pull off a high-school student, but it's likely just because they don't really pay much attention to the people they try and put rules on.
If you don't get a table next year (which, why wouldn't you) you had better come as a regular attendee and enjoy the con like that instead. Though, to be perfectly honest, AN lacks a lot of good programming. After going to Youmacon, AN feels super boring since they don't have good panels/guests.

Actually I was looking into the portfolio requirements and seems like they're not looking for technical drawings persay, but yeah I'll probably be doing a lot more urban sketching and stuff from life instead of all illustrative work. Thanks for the faith though, I really appreciate it.
I think having a somewhat thought out plan to be researched further upon is still greater than anything though! To be honest, I've been somewhat indifferent to my future lately and it's just.. kinda like I've lost a spark haha. Hopefully this leap of faith and spontaneous decision making will pay off though, I'm all with you with letting it roll with the punches. P:Β And hmm I understand your father's point of view, but my parents never fail to take the opportunity to tell me that there's all that wasted potential. Might be an Asian parent thing of expecting more and more and more, but it sure is pressuring.Β
Hopefully I get a table, fingers crossed. Otherwise I'm not sure I'd probably go because as you said- there really is a lack of good programming. The only thing I'd be interested in going for would be for visiting friends and I'm not sure it's worth the cost of admission.
