Description Part of UK history. In the year 664, there was a great meeting at this abbey. It decided that the church should follow the Christianity of Rome, not the Celtic Christianity of the Irish monks based at Iona (an island monastery). Whitby is on the Yorkshire coast.

It is great that you mentioned the synod in Whitby, it is a very interesting event, I wonder what would happen if they would support local traditions for longer? Great shot btw. the sun and shadows look very beautiful!

Thanks so much. Following the Irish monks would probably have led to a more spontaneous, dynamic church. My favourite song (hymn) is called ¨Be Thou My Vision¨; Eden´s Bridge produced a beautiful version of it (YouTube). The lyrics show the depth of the sincerity of the Irish believers. If you know the singer Enya, she sings a delightful version of ¨How Can I Keep From Singing¨ - Irish faith and Irish voice.
