Description
The bacchanalia were wild and mystic festivals of the Roman and Greek god Bacchus. They were originally held in secret and only attended by women. Later, admission to the rites was extended to men and celebrations took place five times a month.
These infamous celebrations, notorious for their sexual and criminal character, got so out of hand that they were forbidden by the Roman Senate.
