Description
While travelling on a boat through a tropical ocean, you may be surprised to see "flying fish" leaping from the water and "flying" through the air.
Flying fish can easily be identified by their huge "flying fins" and lopsided tails. Flying fish are capable of jumping out of the water and gliding through the air over considerable distances. Two-winged flying fish have exceptionally large pectoral fins that they spread out like wings during gliding flights.
Fish can glide as far as 100 metres and as high as one metre above the surface of the water, but most flights are shorter.
