Description A flag for the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region , a Muslim-majority region in northwest China. (China looks like a chicken and Xinjiang is its tail.)

Although this design is most directly based on the Kök Bayraq  ("Blue Banner" in Turkish), a flag commonly used for the East Turkestan independence movement, it contains the five stars from the Chinese flag arranged in the shape of a shooting star, symbolizing wishful thinking and the region's connection to China. Blue here has a dual meaning: in Turkic mythology, it represents the east; in Chinese culture , qing (青) symbolizes vigor and vitality.

My position on Xinjiang: I am appalled that the PRC is not giving Xinjiang's Muslim population the religious freedom they deserve. However, I do not support independence as it could result in the creation of an Islamist state or ethnic cleansing of Han Chinese (who represent 41% of the region's population). In addition, independence might actually be a minority opinion even within Xinjiang. We don't know.
