“If I could give her the world, I would. If I could honour her every hope… every dream, I would be richer than any king. Yet I am but a humble trader. All I can promise is she will live comfortably under my roof.”
-- Johannes
Before the fall of Mahkash to the scheming Amonrah, the minor noble family of House Drey was blessed with two daughters. The youngest, Gwendolyn, was considered the most graceful between them and her beauty was spoken of fondly as she worked behind the counter of an alchemy store in Amberden, bringing many boys to it while dashing their hopes of intimacy when they learned of the curse that hanged over her.
The curse of clumsiness.
For many, it was a death sentence waiting to happen. It was as if luck fled the poor girl all her life and warned the superstitious that she would doom them if she became a part of their lives. Though some dared to ignore it they soon came to believe the stories that the only reason she had work was because the doddering fool who owned the store was a pervert and banked on Lyn’s beauty to sell his wares while he himself hid in the back room with a peep hole to spy on her. True, his potions were celebrated as some of the finest in all the land yet the aging alchemist was no saint.
Yet Lyn’s misfortune with men came at an end when she befriended the alchemist’s supplier, a young merchant who had a habit of making his own luck and found himself drawn to the maiden when others ran for the hills. Some say Johannes was simply too stubborn to accept defeat and despite numerous setbacks and near-death experiences he eventually found the courage to seek out the father of his love and proposed to marry her.
Needless to say, he was quickly welcomed into the family.
This betrothal ring helped with that sentiment. While the young man was not particularly wealthy nor influential amongst Mahkash’s merchant class, Hans made up for it with spirit and was enamoured with the nature of his future beloved’s family. As the young House Drey’s sigil was the rabbit, Hans commissioned this ring with a local jeweller and wanted it to reflect his love’s history and her fondness for a jewel that was rumoured to be a flawed relative to flamestones found only in the desert lands of Zerran. Unlike the flamestones, however, the pink variety are hardly magical.
All well and good, considering. Some souls should never play with magic, especially those with luck like Lyn’s.
And there we have it for August this year. Didn’t get as much lingerie art done as I hoped but I’ll admit I felt like drawing a few items anyway and there’s always next month! So expect more Dragonbound and... twi'leks. Yes.
