“Mine. This is… mine.”
-- Minaiko
After the events that lead to the fall of Lion’s Haven, Minaiko was returned broken to the Alliance. Yet despite her alleged rehabilitation program in the Arae Nebula, sponsored by the Voss Institute, the only stimuli she reacted positively to was being in close proximity to the former Daenov 6 inhabitant, Raul Eckhart, who also stayed at the facility at the behest of Moriya Zandr, an independent scientist working for Voss.
The other stimuli was her only possession, a ring.
It was alleged the ring was a symbol of power, a relic of untold prominence during the city’s golden age before its subsequent fall. According to those who escaped offworld with Minaiko, she received it after becoming the willing queen of one of the city’s so-called ‘Lion Kings’, the one called Krask.
Despite looking simple at a glance, the ring was forged by a subsidiary of the Yasif Mining Corporation, Inderpal Security. Using cutting edge technology available to them at the time, the IS was responsible for protecting sensitive YMC data from corporate espionage, though their charter expanded to protection of the company’s senior members. However, it was only until the YMC stepped away from the mining sector that the IS became more involved with its activities, especially on Daenov 6.
Though the majority of the YMC’s assets were still situated in the Duum Sector, an effort was made to branch out to the tourism industry and Lion’s Haven, formerly known as New Haven City, was considered their jewel for the job. Its distance from the core worlds was considered its strength and the city attracted the social elite from a thousand worlds while hailing the IS for its discretion in public affairs and protecting the elite from media interference.
So proficient was the IS in the latter that the city became a heart for information gathering outside the jurisdiction of the rising Federation and smaller empires. Minaiko’s ring was a relic of that age, in that it was likely worn by someone of high standing before the first city's exodus left it in the hands of criminals.
Its purpose was primarily for security. While the ring’s outer casing is coated in an alloy native to the Duum Sector, giving its golden appearance, inside is a microcomputer designed around the fundamentals of ancient seam technology that linked such rings to what were called ‘data spires’.
While colloquially called worse, the spires were similar in size to a finger and were only accessible through the use of rings assigned to them through an interlocking code after a seam was completed. Such tech was found throughout Lion’s Haven in its more grandiose towers yet after the rise of the Lion Kings it was reverse engineered during the Blackout Period to accommodate their social hierarchy present throughout their prides.
While only lions had rings that gave them complete control over their towers some chose to assign rings with the same security parameters to their queens and closest mates in the bedroom. It was a true testament of courage in a world that had long forgotten the value of trust and unconditional love.
