Was doing some self reflecting today when going through sketches in my stash. It’s interesting how things can change over a short period of time. Yeah 5-6 months is a lot but still.
You get comfortable with characters, you try new things with them, you develop a style for them.
I honestly wasn’t expecting a big difference when Survive the Shadows came to a close, but then I looked at my very first drawing of Wilson and well… Yeah. Things had changed.
Facial structure, how I draw his hair, lots of things. (Which you can spot for yourself.)
Even in character he changed. When Storm and I started the first drafts for Survive the Shadows, we originally pitched him as a more serious and… kind of cold hearted character. He wasn’t a jerk, but he was definitely more closed off and wasn’t much of a guy for smiles. Then we got to know him more through game quotes and other media and he turned into the biggest dork ever. He still has a serious side, but under that he’s a bit of a softy.
So yeah, it’s just interesting. Thought I’d share.
And to all artists still doing what they can to improve their craft, never stop drawing, painting or whatever it is you do. You’ll find your style in time. Just be patient, keep on practicing and try new things.
