Description My first attempt at HDR, I have no idea if it's even done properly lol

Taken from my bedroom window.

Edit: I have toned down the green levels on grass in LR 4

It loosely translates to, 'Waking up to the countryside'.

In some ways it could be considered you have got the perfect shot in HDR because one of the really frustrating things about photography in Ireland is the sheer craziness of local light levels. Being Irish and originally from a broadly similar sort of countryside I think it is a wonderful capture of all the shades. You are right, probably the worse part is the grass but I have seen skies, hills and houses look exactly like this on one of those maddening Irish summer days where brilliant light is replaced by thunderous dark in minutes and all the colour and light combinations that happen in between. Well done Ailish

Yes that's one of the things that I dread most about taking shots like that here. Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

I do not know what 'HDR' is, but this is a very nice photo! What a nice view to have from your window, and the colour is so vibrant, too!

Very nice view! Also great for a first time. As Andrew said, people really go too far with HDR sometimes, but yours is quite good. Next step is trying to do it manually in PS - you will learn a lot this way. Have fun!

HDR is a tricky bitch to tame I still find every new HDR photo I do needs a completely different approach than the last, constantly battling trying to get that perfect balance. Sometimes it even helps to bring the HDR image into photoshop and layer the original photos over it masking portions here and there, but I've yet to do that myself, the time and patience required has so far put me off it haha. Good for your first effort, definitely better than a lot of peoples 100th try, some of the HDR people put up on dA is just over the top with the strength of the effect if you get waht I mean.

Ugh I know, I was at that for over an hour and a half and I'm still not happy with it! I think the grass is way over-saturated tbh. I'm pretty much hopeless at PS when it comes layering etc, yeah i understand, I've seen some really over-the-top HDR images and I wasn't sure if that was the right way or not, until a friend of mine who's a photography student told me that it's meant to be subtle, so that put me on the rightish track lol. Thanks for your in-put, much appreciated!

Yeah I've had trouble with the radioactive grass before alright, almost every time in fact haha, I've taken to just slightly desaturating the green channel (using lightroom 3, RAW files) until it looks somewhat non fluorescent. Ever since this iamge [link] I've been mindful of the green and yellow channels and their effect on grass, stupid Ireland and all its stupid grass! If you ever have any questions or anything I'm always happy to help people, that's mostly how I've been learning so far and I'd be quite a dick if I didn't share what others have helped me with
