Both males and females form extremely close bonds with their children, and many families will stay in close proximity to one another for their entire lives. When Tas Vera reach sexual maturity their childhood groups of friends become potential mates. Males tend to be the more choosy of the sexes, and females are known to be fairly showy and cocky when they are vying for mates. Males appear to prefer the most confident females, with the most appealing facial horns. Shape, length, and coloration are important.

Their sense of hearing is equally sensitive. They are fairly near-sighted, and see a limited number of colors, but they can see equally well in the day and night.
Emotions: Standard
Communication: Vocal
Species Abilities: None
Social Organization: Organized herd. The Tas Veca evolved as cooperative herd animals, and this past is still apparent in their modern organization. Within their cities, most Vas Teca live with their extended families in building complexes designed to accommodate these relatively large groups. When it comes to decision-making, in small groups or large, this species prefers to come to a consensus. When one cannot be reached, a single group tends to split into two, and no Tas Veca is willing to follow another without originally having agreed with the leader, or being logically convinced to do so. Luckily, this species is cooperative by nature, to the point of lacking any sort of internal competitiveness, and agreements tend to come easy among them. They also tend to consider the safety of their families and herds before themselves, and thus leaders among them lack any tendency towards corruption. This strong team mentality has allowed this species to reach the pinnacle of sentient development on the Cor'isa continent, and against their carnivorous neighbors they now dominate the main continent of Ki'vara.
Religion: This species has developed a religion based around the ceremonial worship of ancestor spirits. Against a world full of sentients out to eat or crush them, the Tas Veca were quick to seek the protection of those who had passed on into the next life. Due to their close bonds with their families, spirits are always considered to be good, and there is no concept of evil, or dissatisfied ghosts.
When a member of the family dies, the Tas Veca have an elaborate ritual by which they help the spirit of their loved one leave their bodies, and invite the spirit back into the family house. In order to do this, candles are lit and arranged around the family hearth in specific, ceremonial patterns which are meant to attract the attention of the new family spirits. Young family members gather around the hearth and sing songs to the departed spirit, while older members circle around the dead body with fans where they silently circle the dead body and try to entice the spirit to leave the deceased. This ritual may go on for days, and only once the eldest member of the family believes that the spirit has safely found its way to the hearth will the ceremony end.
When the help of ancestor spirits are needed the hearth is often used as a mode of communication. Blue and green fires, lit using specific ceremonial plants, are started in the hearth to gather ancestral spirits, and then a gathering of the family, and extensive chanting is used to ask the spirits for protection.
Culture: For the most part, the Tas Veca people living in peaceful, walled cities and villages in the plains of Cor'isa. Their culture varies with location, and they have a wide variety of different languages. Despite this, they share a religion of ancestral worship, and as their population has expanded and differenciated they have maintained a strong trading network along with a simple trading language which has allowed the various tribes to continue communicating with one another. The fastest members of the species are typically devoted to carrying messages and materials along the trade routes, and particularly skilled warriors are often seen patrolling the roads, keeping them clear of unwanted sentients.
Methods of technology development among the Tas Veca is extremely cooperative, and new inventions quickly disseminate among various cities. The most common types of technology developed and improved upon by this species are protective weapons, agricultural practices, and new dyes and paints used for ceremonial art. They are a fairly content people, and when they are safe from the predators and other sentients around them, they seem to want for little more than food and family.
They do where some clothing, but mostly for ceremonial reasons, and many regions have clothing types that are specific to them. Wearing regional clothing is a way for Tas Veca to peacefully display their pride in their people, and they often have playful competitions in devising the most beautiful clothing displays.
Relations: Traditionally, the Tas Veca (as with most other species of Cor'isa) were on their own, against the other sentients that would seek to devour them or displace them from their ancestral lands. With the coming of the northern invaders, however, the Tas Veca have become the heart of the Cor'isa resistance, and most of the species that have joined the fight against the invaders consider the Tas Veca with a high level of respect. The invaders, on the other hand, despise the Tas Veca and have come to the conclusion that this species must be wiped out in order for them to control Cor'isa.
History: In their early history, the Tas Vera were confronted by several different sentient carnivores, and as their hunters grew smarter, they were forced to grow smarter as well. Their smarter members survived, and they grew more innovative. At the same time, they grew more and more cooperative, protecting their own through their sheer numbers and joint strength. As it turned out, their strategy was extremely successful and within a few thousand years they had come to dominate their home continent.
They are a fairly peaceful species, however, and their primary goal is simply to live in safety. With the coming of the Northern invaders, the Tas Veca were already well prepared to serve as leaders.
