Well... Jealousy is good as long as it can make you practice better...
And I was jealousy to my friends arts which is absolutely better than mine... So I keep practicing and today, everytime I looked at my old works... I'm glad I have reached this point... Then I start jealous again to a better artist...
But, really.. There are so damn many artists who deserve for your jealousy than me... Even in this DA... I was just starting and yet I'm already this old... sigh...
And... Uh.. Oh... about our "art-trade"

But in case I can save time to finish your character artwork. I promise I finish it real quick. I feel so bad for letting you wait this long...

ah.. maybe they just started a little earlier than you...
if I may give some advise. Maybe you should start learning basic anatomy if you want to get better at drawing people... Forget anime style when you're learning. And when you feel you know better at understanding human anatomy, then you can draw anime style as you like. And see the difference...
And for shading.. maybe you should learn the basic of lighting first. And then understand material... Because every material has different reflection when they "touched" by the light. And my suggestion is you can learn from real photography. and not from another artist's work yet (painting or drawing). Or probably you should start drawing still life.. Look around and draw them. It'll grow your sensitivity about lighting.

Well,I've been in an art school during uh.. ok I have no idea how to explain, but for idk 4years, I've been in an art school,and now in college, also studying stuff like this, with the only difference that now I paint and draw with my tablet, before this I painted on a canvas and drew with pencils and stuff, so I had to draw such stuff a lot. But I didn't get the feeling that it helped me to improve.

Ow, you were in art school? then it should be easy learning such stuff. Maybe it's time that you should understand and not just drawing.. If you want anime/manga style, just remember that the basic drawing is the same. anatomy, lighting and rendering. For example, Anime styled human is still human, right? they have skeletons, limbs, muscles and skin and so many other details. Their structure are the same. And clothes, they are the same clothe you draw in your art class, right?
And why don't you apply them and just enjoy! no need to pressure yourself to get better. You'll get better for sure if you draw more and more. practice more and more. and enjoy it more and more. Drawing should be fun not stressing isn't it?
Now, whenever I felt like my drawing is no better than others. I just said to myself "I had some fun doing this, and I just want to do it over and over again". No matter what the outcomes would be, I just like to pour my imagination, ideas and feelings into my drawings. Experiment with it and make something "out of the box". That's just what I had in mind these times.

maybe you should try get some more good references? and have you read the article? maybe you always practice what you're good at. (that's what the article said). And one more thing, maybe you need friends to do this together. Sometimes competition between friends is good, if we put them in a good way.
I just hope sharing my experience would relieve you a bit.
just don't give up! walk slowly to your dream. Don't run if you feel you couldn't. you'll tripped... heheh...

Well, I used to have a friend like that, but things didn't work out very well, the friendship ended because that friend was copying whatever I did, and didn't appreciate any critique I gave, even tho I meant well.
Sad it had to end like this.
