Ahh, if you meant that flat grey color on the second step. That's actually a character masking color I made for clipping the real colors on like this;
The color layers above won't mess out of bound of the masking color (the layer name "base") because they're clipping with it. C:Β

huuu ? wait i m kinda lost there '-' if you re using the grey as base color and clip "color" and "skin" layer on it, how do you deal with the shad then ? @_@ seem so complicatedΒ

Ah, my shading method is to use multiply layer. So I just could clip the multiply over them and paint the shadow. Β
I didn't do shadow on each separate parts of drawing. I like to shade them all in once because it seems faster for me C:

are you really using the same color for all the shad on the multiply layer ? that's freaking amazing !!Β

Yes, it's typically all in the same layer, maybe got some separate layer for the specific spot that need more shadow, like downward the chin or something. C:
And it's not totally the same colors. You may see the same gray color on multiply but actually, I smear a little of red or orange on character's skin, like this step of my coloring;
