I adore Varian's character in the Tangled cartoon series. His character is so interesting and I feel bad that he fell into a "bad guy" role. He was so kind hearted with a cute quirky personality and just wanted to help Rapunzel and his community with his alchemy skills (and gain his stern father's approval) and things just took such a cruel and nasty turn for him and his life fell apart. On the one hand he didn't deserve the grief and harassment he received during the darkest period of life which took him down a dark path which made him a full on villain (who committed actions even I couldn't condone even though I sympathized with his pain and feelings of abandonment). But on the other hand him going through that harsh stuff in the story gave his character an edge and dimension he wouldn't have had with out his villain arc.Β Β

Not trying to be an idiot here but, never watched the whole tangled animated series.
So, whatβs the sticky wicket behind this kiddo?
As the doodles suggest, itβs prolly something to do with his dad.

Long story short: Varian is a 14-year-old alchemy prodigy who, by total accident, ended up encasing his father in unbreakable amber. This led Varian to committing several counts of treason in an attempt to free him, and when he couldn't, tried to kill several of Rapunzel's loved ones out of misguided grief and revenge (in his eyes, she was responsible for his father's fate). And that's about where season one left off.

I wouldn't count on it. Even if he does get a redemption arc, Disney will still have classified him as a villain (and a pretty obscure one at that).
