Description
My works didn’t touch political subjects before, but since I’ve become a volunteer in local lgbtq+ activist group, politics became much bigger part of my life..
Here I want to confront the image of gay community recently emerging in western media with RuPaul’s drag race and celebrities like James Charles or Jeffree Star (I have nothing against them expressing themselves to be clear), with its actual difficult and brutal history. There are still places in the world where people are being oppressed for not being straight. It’s not always rainbows and unicorns, fierce make up and pride parades that media are trying to sell us.

(I rarely express my intentions that are behind my works, because ultimately what the creator wanted to say doesn’t matter, but here I think the subject is too delicate. I don’t want this image to be interpreted as criticism of lgbtq+ community, just its portrayal in mainstream media.).

This is a reminder that even the simplest things in life will cause outrage in morons who think they have high IQs and wear MAGA hats unironically.
Also, I feel like this should be painted in different ways for other people who face abuse. POC models, people who face spousal abuse and cover it up from the light of the public, people who cover their self harm and their hurts with a facade or actual makeup like is shown in this case.

I think what Guns means is people shouldn't be trying to say what is or isn't good and bad regarding lgbt+ people when they aren't lgbt+ themselves. that's like me telling a straight person what they're doing is disgusting or harming someone when I'm not straight and have no place speaking on their relationships.
More importantly Straight/cis people don't know what we go through and more often then not don't sympathize or empathize with lgbt+ people because they have never been oppressed because of their sexuality or gender. Another comparison that's like me saying skydiving is terrifying and should never be done when I haven't even sky dived.

You'll find that's common place on this site when you try to defend what's right. But don't worry~ I mean I didn't interpret what you said that way and I doubt many others will unless they're having a guilty conscious about some of their views, why else try to sit there and twist words and make the issue about themselves and not what the piece itself is trying to explain. I gave them some examples, maybe they'll listen, but my experience is homophobes and their allies typically don't, either way you weren't in the wrong.

I like that you've brought a different and important topic into the discussion with this piece. You've actually made me more critically think about how gay "lifestyles" are presented in the media. I like this, because this touches on actual oppression, hid behind pink sparkly rainbows and shit like the media says it is.
I hate it that these (most likely just trenders) in the 1st world scream oppression, even though they have literally nothing to worry about with the media handing everything to them.. and they could really ruin someone's life with a tweet under the name of "activism." Meanwhile, in the 3rd world countries, especially Islamic ones, anyone who is LGBT+ will be thrown off a building. They are the real oppressed ones, and they can't express anything about their sexuality or else it's their head.

I am homoromantic and refuse to associate with the lgbt community because they are too radical for me. I just want to be seen as a normal person, not a freak. Your sexuality is not your personality or fashion. It's just your sexuality and it's really not that important. Pushing it in people's faces and making a joke out of it only makes people push back. I hate it and I think it's disgusting. They aren't fighting for rights. They are fighting to be seen as special.
