If someone says "bookshelves" I think of an entire bookcase, not the individual shelves. But even five full bookcases doesn't seem like much. I've got five at home, not including the kids, who each have their own.

The more choices you have, the less likely you'll want to choose.
A really good example is with games.
If you bought a brand new console and a game for it, you'll probably play that game to completion.
But if you bought a brand new console, and a hundred games for it, one of which is that game from the previous example, you probably won't complete any of them.
