Description
Lots of things to say about my new art with Ogerpon, the main Pokémon of the Teal Mask DLC. Due to its numerous Japanese inspirations, its particular mechanics with its masks, and its design which I find really great, Ogerpon is one of the best designed Pokémon of the pas few years...

Ogerpon is quite obviously inspired by oni 鬼 and more particularly by yōkai kijo 鬼女 (lit. “demon woman”). The kijo is a young demon woman, who has the particularity of always wearing a mask to hide her face. I remind you that Ogerpon is exclusively female. For the oni side, we physically find the horns, the loincloth, but above all the famous spiked cludgel, very characteristic to the oni. His signature attack Ivy Cudgel is the perfect example. The name Ogerpon present in all languages makes the link obvious, too: oger refers to the ogre/oger, and therefore to the oni (oni are rather described as ogres physically). Plus, oni always live hidden in the mountains.

Ogerpon is also inspired by Ura, the demon king from the tale of Momotarō. I've already talked about it, but this tale involves this hero Momotarō, fighting demons alongside a dog, a pheasant, and a monkey (well, that also reminds me of something...). The legend of Momotarō comes from the prefecture of Okayama in Japan, and more precisely on a mountain with Ki Castle (ki no jo 鬼城) at its summit, literally the “demon castle” (Ura's one)! It is therefore very likely that Kitakami is inspired by the prefecture of Okayama, in the west of Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, etc.). This explains why many Johto Pokémon that can be found in Kitakami, Johto being closed and directly inspired by Kansai region.

In the DLC storyline, Ogerpon is considered the enemy of the Loyal Three, a trio revered in the region (I will talk about them again in the future!). He can wear 4 different masks, allowing him to change his type and talent.
