I'm not that good and my colouring have no secrets or anything...
But if u wanna know, that's the way I do:
After having my lineart layer, wich should be transparent except the lines, I create another layer under it.
All the colouring will go under it, rather use a different layer for each part of the drawing.
So, I color the parts with a hard color. I mean, without caring with shadows or anything, just choose a main color for the face, one for the clothes, for hair.. etc.
I pick this main color and choose another tone a little bit darker than the the first.
So, with this tone, I make the bigger shadows. It can be with a cell brush, don't mind if it looks hard because it will be softed later.
Pick this tone and choose another even darker than this.
Use this 3rd tone to make the smaller shadows. It gives a cool effect if you use it in the borders. But don't use too much of this tone.
Now, pick the main tone again and then choose another a little lighter than this. Use it where you think there is light. And if it's a light drawing, you can still use white in the lighter places.
Now, here comes the magic that will make this hard colouring looks soft.
Choose the smudge tool, rather with a big and soft rounded brush.
And now, jut start bluring and smudging all these shadows till it looks soft
After finishing this, you can also pick the burn and the dodge tool to make darker shadows and lighter lightings
These white effects in bg were made with simple vertical brush strokes and then used the Motion Blur Filter.
I use tablet, so all the thing is much easier.
And.. this one is not of my best colorations, so, if you look at the newer ones, you can see the result better
I don't know if I explanate well, since my english is not good, but i hope you understand it ^^

Yeaah.. I like her...
but I'm getting sick of drawing her >_<..
In this time I just get the idea of the pose and started imagining how a lot of characters would look in it, just because I didn't want to draw her again... but then I ended with damn Kuchiki again.. XD..
