I think autocorrect stepped in there because I don't know what Maui is.

While I knew it was an island, I did not know those specifics. I don't know about you but I have been on the east coast of the US for my whole life. Summer is muggy he'll and winters are 0-10 F. I kind of like the very distinct seasons, personally. I would love to visit one day. I am taking a drawing class for the summer semester and I'm hoping I can learn the basics of traditional illustration. Any tips?

I'm in Chicago, so I know what midwest winter and summer are like Β As for drawing, I'm a self-learner and I've learnt it by watching different YouTube channels, specifically ThePortraitArt (and I became his patron on Patreon.com); Proko; Nathan Fowkes; Art of Wei; Alphonso Dunn; Jeff Watts; New Masters Academy and some of the subchannels from it and artists such as Steve Huston and drawing with Chris; Art of Aaron Blaise; Virtual Instructor and more . There are obviously a lot more out there but the ones that I'm mentioning are the ones with a good traditional art quality and don't do some crazy stuff like tell you about how to do some grid drawing technique or using the divider to scale your drawings. I've also purchased and read books from Steve Huston on figure drawing, Nathan Fowkes on portraits, Alphonso Dunn on Pen&Ink, some anatomy book and anatomy in action books and some books on more figure drawing (I forgot the name of the author). All of that helps me to improve my knowledge on drawing and then, obviously, lots and lots of exercises to reaffirm the knowledge with practice. I use "Draw This" YouTube channel to practice my figure drawing skills with 1-2 minute sketches and then longer sketches as required, then I practice a lot from references with a freehand drawing, then recently started doing it from live too.

Wow, what a list of people I need to check out. I just started in the past 6 months and only have done digital art. I skipped the basics and just went into trial and error so I'm grateful for these resources. I don't even know what a divider is. (Is it like masking things off?) I have heard of grids but only in the cubist senses. For instance, making a grid and shading each box to the value in that box but not caring about the ones around it. That's kinda cool looking but probably not what you're talking about.

Doodling says you. I think you misnamed it though. Looks more like a "Siren's Call" to me... Unless we are looking at her from a boat... hmm..

I thought about it but then put some kind of a "beach" so she is just in a shallow water....

BUT the beach may be shallow there, but who knows for how far? Not all beaches gradually get deeper- a good number have some sudden drops. OR sudden waves. *nods* Just because she is near shore doesnβt mean she canβt be deadly.Β
