My second of two submissions to Project Rooftop's latest competition. I had about five minutes to submit when I had simpler and nicer ideas for the backgrounds (as you see here) than the images I submitted
for the competition. The submitted backdrop concepts are so jarring and awful that they should be rejected on that premise alone...
Although no longer canon, this design first emerged a couple of years ago as my take on Barbara post-Birds of Prey (why she was the only character never to walk again in the DCU was beyond me). The central idea is that this re-emergence is her Nightwing moment; her chance to really step out of the shadows and step up - ditching the cape to better suit her gymnastic skills, implications to a tech-heavy suit (spine protection and data access capability), and a look that spliced her two former identities as Batgirl (the dominant logo, ears, utility belt, collar and suit motifs) and Oracle (the under-logo, the colour, the technical aspects of the suit and the more streamlined, no-bells-and-whistles appearance). Influences for this design are Phil Bourassa and the inexhaustible Kris Anka. Through this incarnation, Batgirl does indeed begin again.
