This is beautiful ;-; I love it! Especially the lone figure sitting by the fire. You captured the vision of a campfire in the night within a forest so well! Especially how you have spots of light hitting the surfaces of rocks and the trees. So beautiful! A cool effect you may be able to do is add some kind of mist around the mountains or something. To give them more distance and depth. They're really good, they just appear a little tiny bit flat compared to everything else, but the shading helps to give them depth so it still looks really good. Overall though, you have an amazing piece here, and I love it! ^_^

Edge0fEternity [2017-11-18 02:03:24 +0000 UTC]

Hey there, Edge0fEternity here from #projectcomment !

I'll first start with saying that this is a very, very, VERY well done picture. Probably my favorite part of this picture is the use of the shadows in the trees and on the ground, they just feel... perfect. Another thing I love about the picture is even with all the shadows you know exactly what everything is, from the fire and the people around it, to the rocks and shrubbery in the dark. Another detail that caught my eye was the tree on the far right, how it leans waaay over compared to the other trees, a very realistic detail that can easily be overlooked when making a forest. I do have a couple issues with the picture, I'm not a fan of the mountains, they look too triangular and bland compared to the rest of the picture. Also the night sky seems a little light in comparison to the ground. I was also going to mention that I was a little disappointed to not see any wildlife in the picture, but then I realized that there probably wouldn't be anything so close to humans.
In summary it is a very beautiful picture that the only flaws are my personnel preference. Incredible art!

Thank you so much! <3
I honestly did not realize the mountains had turned out that triangular until someone pointed it out, I will have to be mindful of it in the future. The relatively bright sky was an aesthetic choice though. c:

This... reminds me... of something? I think it's that webcomic "A Redtail's Dream" that I read a looong time ago. Something about the colours. Maybe. Maybe not?
Anyway, I'm here from ProjectComment to give you a constructive comment on this piece!
I love your medium! (Oil and brushes/palette knives, right?) It's so full of colour! Sadly, traditional drawing seems to be going out of fashion, but I think digital colouring just gets too flat and boring after a while.
I really can't offer that much criticism: this is pretty good. The elements that seem unrealistic (the mountains being triangles, for example) have been done like that on purpose (I think?), and they don't detract from the charm and atmosphere. The warm tones that make up most of the piece are balanced with the blue of the sky and the dark green of the woods. I think you could have made the shadows on the trunk dark blue/green instead of straight black, as it would have served even better contrast (ever looked at any of Constable's tree paintings?). The fire nd he reflections on the trees are done exceptionall well, the viewer gets a feeling of warmth and flickering light even if the picture in itself is immobile.
The one thing I am confused about is the position of the sun in this picture. At first glance, I thought it was off screen on the left, and the trees were lit by the flames of the fire, Until I realized that it might actually be in the middle slightly hidden behind the mountains. If this is the case, the shading on he mountains is completely wrong, as they would be lit from the back and therefore much darker and their outlines more strongly defined (here's an example photos.travelblog.org/Photos/2… ). The mountain in the bottom wouldn't be lit either, as the light would be blocked by the mountains behind it.
Another thing you could change is that log in the bottom right corner. Seeing as it's in the foreground, I feel as if it sould be more clearly defined, and have more details shown on it.
Well, that's all from me. Have anice day!

I looked up that webcomic, and I think I see what you mean. though I am humbled and flattered by the comparison. And it is Acrylic paint (water based) and brushes. c:
The sun is indeed in the center. And you are right, even with reflecting light from the stars and atmosphere the mountains should probably be darker. I actually briefly considered this halfway through but I was scared I'd ruin them by making them darker. I should stop being a coward. I honestly didn't realize they were too triangular until you pointed it out though. D:
Thank you very much for your comment it was very helpful! <3

I honestly don't see a problem with the stylized mountain-triangles, it was just an obsrvation. Really? This is acrilic? I didn't think such vibrant colours could be done with water based paint! Cool!
As for the light source, I dont think i's too much of a problem, as the light is diffused enough.
You're very welcome!

Hey there, i just joined ProjectComment, so here's my constructive Comment on this amazing piece of art.
I chose to comment on this painting because i loved the atmosphere at first sight. With the stars in the background it looks really mystical. I think it's great that the background is sort of blurry, but maybe you could bring focus to the persons and the fire by giving them a little more details, and contours.
Another little thing that might make it look even better would be to remove the stars that seem to be on the trees. On the left upper corner there are some stars, that seem to float between the leaves and the trunks.

But, all in all i really like that painting, keep it up!

Thank you very much for your comment!
The character could indeed be more refined.
I'm not sure which stars you mean though. The trees don't have many leaves so the stars would shine through. Maybe there are too many?

then it might be too many but thats a small thing, thats how i see it, other people might not agree

Hi I'm here for ProjectComment

Overall, this painting is superb!  Awesome job!  I like how the fire casts the light upon the trees.  I also like the tree trunks, but the leaves could be improved.  Some of them seem to be floating.  The mountains are beautifully colored, though I would prefer for them to be darker, as it is night.  Also, I would like the sky to be a bit darker, with a light milky way.  Also, I think it would be more interesting if there was a squirrle or bird on the dead log on the bottom right corner.  The bushes are very good, and I love the fire.  The old woman's outline is a little undefined, I would recommend darkening it.  Also, I can't tell if there is another person sitting in the clearing or if it is just a coat.

In conclusion, amazing!

I painted it that light because it is a sunset, but the lowest mountains could have been a bit darker maybe. And yes, that is another person. ; u;

Lovely! Especially how the mountains themselves appear to be caught aflame by the sunset. The stylization of the piece also gives a vintage touch, super pretty.

This looks great! Nice job capturing the glow of the fire, then bringing that glow to other parts of the scene as well. The sky looks amazing

I didn't like all the black at first, but the more I look at this the better it looks. It helps anchor the foreground and the subtle blues/greys add interest in otherwise empty parts of the scene
